Coventry target their Championship top keeper, Carl Rushworth, after his stellar loan season. Premier League clubs also watch the potential signing.

Newly promoted Coventry City are expected to table a bid for Brighton loanee goalkeeper, and Championship player of the season contender, Carl Rushworth.

Rushworth has had an incredible season under Frank Lampard. Year upon year, his growth has been one of the most significant from any other Albion youngster out on loan. This season has proved to be the one to finally announce himself to the English top flight.

Clubs like Newcastle are also closely monitoring the situation, but recent reports suggest Coventry are the front-runners for the Englishman's signature. It would make sense, Lampard has progressed him into a leading goalkeeper in the eyes of English football. He even narrowly missed out on a place for Thomas Tuchel's recent call-ups.

Rushworth is highly regarded at the club and turned down approaches from Arsenal and Manchester United to sign for Brighton from Halifax Town in 2019.

A big part of his future will still depend on what happens with Bart Verbruggen at Brighton. Albion are chasing European football, and Verbruggen has been a key player for Fabian Hürzeler's side. Of course, his good form has caught the attention of bigger clubs in Europe. If Manuel Neuer is to leave Bayern Munich this summer, the German giants are expected to make a move for Verbruggen.

Rushworth has kept the most clean sheets in the Championship this season. An impressive 16 clean sheets, but combined with some incredible and match-winning saves to pull in valuable points towards their promotion to the Premier League.

Coventry's season has been incredible. Something that they have been waiting for, and deserving of, for some time now.  From narrowly missing out on promotions and the bitter heartbreak in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United, it was about time that something fell right for the sky blues under Lampard.

If it comes down to Rushworth leaving Brighton this summer, a move back to familiarity would make a lot of sense for his next step in his development.

He has previously said he wants to make his next club a permanent one, having been loaned out every year since signing for the Seagulls. Rushworth has never truly had a home club since 2019, and a Premier League adventure with the side he won a Championship title with would align incredibly well.

Brighton have been notably in the market for various other goalkeepers, according to strong sources. Perhaps a sign that Albion do not see a future for Rushworth to remain as number one, which has always been his ultimatum.
