From free transfer to local legend, the reborn striker’s fifty-goal tally and unwavering fan connection earn him a permanent place among the city’s vibrant street art.

Danny Welbeck has become a reborn quantity at Brighton since his free transfer arrival in 2020. Little did anyone see just how big his impact would be at the club.

Brighton leading fanzine and street art creators Dogma Brighton have commemorated Welbeck with a brand new mural outside the Caxton Arms pub in Brighton city centre.

Before Welbeck joined Brighton, very few people would have ever imagined him having a mural in the city centre of the new place he would later call home. "Our Guy Welbz" is a staple of living proof that Welbeck finally found his best form at a new place, in the least expected circumstances.

When Welbeck was at Manchester United, it felt inevitable that he would be a successful player. Sir Alex Ferguson even labelled him as "the best player we have in terms of operating in a double role" and used an example for young players coming through the academy in Carrington for how hard work and dedication will always beat sheer talent.

Welbeck's influence has continued to Brighton, and he has finally established himself at a club in a way in which he has previously failed to do so at others. While his time at United and Arsenal was good, he was largely remembered for his lack of goal output and injury list. He even became a meme during this period of time!

That has been eradicated at Brighton, and now has over 50 goals for the club. These goals have been instrumental in their rise and consistent battle for European football, too!

He is currently the top English goal scorer in the Premier League with a stunning 13 goals, despite being at the tender age of 35-years-old. Welbeck has improved in his 30s and peaked in his 'later' years.

He isn't the first for this to happen to, but is certainly one of the most impressive.

For Brighton, it is a testament to the gamble that has paid off. Most importantly, his connection with the fans has become second to none. Albion needed a striker whom they could not only depend upon but also feel like they had as a staple at the club.

When Glenn Murray left in 2021, that hole was gaping in the squad, but Welbeck has filled it impressively.

All that is left now for Welbeck to do is sign the piece, which would just about top off his incredible connection with the club.

Fans will forever remember Welbeck as a modern Brighton legend, and that word cannot ever be handed out lightly.
