Thomas Tuchel eyes the Premier League’s joint-highest English scorer for a provisional squad spot, rewarding the Brighton veteran’s clinical finishing and vital leadership on the international stage.

Brighton and Hove Albion striker, Danny Welbeck, looks set to be called up to Thomas Tuchel's provisional England Squad, according to the Telegraph

Welbeck has been the joint-highest English goalscorer (13) in the Premier League this season, tied with Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White. Tuchel will have to submit his final squad by 22nd May.

A call-up that can only be described as well deserved, albeit provisionally, as the Albion striker has had a campaign to remember.

It hasn't just been the goals, but his influence both on and off the pitch within the squad and fans has been immeasurable. Most fans now view Welbeck as a modern Brighton legend, and street artists Dogma Brighton have even dedicated a mural outside the local fan pub, The Caxton Arms.

Within the squad, it is clear of his leadership qualities. Often taking the armband when the usual captain, Lewis Dunk, is out of the side, Welbeck has provided a mentorship role for the abundance of young talent that Albion possess.

His variety of goals and versatility in the side have equally been key. Welbeck's hold-up play is very good, and often creates opportunities for runners like Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma.

His xG sits at around 12.1, and with 13 actual goals, an overperformance in front this season is a very impressive return for the 35-year-old, who is seemingly ageing like a fine wine!

A combination of character, hard work and top-level player, Danny Welbeck could even be a missing link for England's World Cup side of 2026.
