Brighton eyes Newcastle's versatile teen sensation. Will the Seagulls snatch this rising midfield star, or will giants like PSG swoop?
Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly interested in Newcastle United academy graduate Lewis Miley.
Miley has been one of the biggest breakout stars for the Magpies in recent times. Going from the Newcastle academy to playing in the Champions League against the likes of PSG is nothing short of incredible, but the manner in which he has represented his boyhood club is key.
The Durham-born Englishman is known for his versatility and ability to shift between midfield and defence fluently. Albion are known for loving players like this, as we've seen with our own Jack Hinshelwood and Mats Wieffer in recent times. The seamless transition for players between midfield and right-back has become a modern football theme, and luckily for head coach Fabian Hürzeler, Miley is that sort of player.
At only 18 years of age, he is a very obvious link for a club like Brighton. The deep midfielder is likened to many talented midfielders like Wieffer, who have a strong ability to thread passes magnificently and break lines. With talented players in front of him, he could be an incredibly useful asset for the Seagulls.
It appears as though Newcastle could be forced to sell players this summer, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon already linked with moves away. In an imaginary world, the Magpies would probably rather lose a player on a pure profit than a player who will have been bought for big money. Needless to say, players like Gordan and Tonali are also naturally known for being the best players at the club.
Brighton have taken advantage of Newcastle's financial position before. The £30 million signing of Yankuba Minteh in 2024 was an opportunity far too good to let slip, and with Albion in such a dominant position financially and pushing for European football, they're more than smart enough to do something like this again.
With that in mind, clubs like PSG, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and others are also linked with Miley, so a deal wouldn't be the easiest to pull off. Forest have followed a similar path in poaching from the Geordies, after their impressive signing of Elliot Anderson in the same summer window.
Miley would be a fantastic signing for Albion, and without it being known to be heavily reliable, a deal would make sense considering the circumstances and the style of the player. He would fit Fabian Hürzeler's side, and Tony Bloom loves a good market opportunity when they crop up!
This summer is expected to be a busy one down on the South Coast, both with incomings and outgoings.
