Chelsea are looking to end October with a victory when they host Manchester United in the Premier League.

It has been a difficult week for Xabi Alonso's side. A dismal 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was followed by a penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, ending their hopes of winning the season's first domestic trophy.

They face a Man United side that is under pressure. Michael Carrick's tenure looked to be over after their 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth. But he's been given a reprieve and a chance to turn things around, with a trip to Stamford Bridge as his first opportunity.

United have a positive record against Chelsea in the league. The Blues have won just two of their last 17 league matches against this weekend's opponents (D8 L7).

Chelsea have their injury problems, and that will show again on Saturday. Alonso cannot afford to use that as an excuse and knows a win is required after an improved display against Liverpool, even if his side were not triumphant on penalties at Anfield.

Alonso's record against United doesn't look good either. He lost five of his seven Premier League games against Man Utd as a Liverpool player (W1 D1) - his joint-most defeats against an opponent, along with Chelsea

Mike Penders will continue in goal for Chelsea given Emiliano Martinez's absence.

Jorrel Hato and Maxence Lacroix are unavailable due to issues. Lacroix picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Liverpool and is set for a spell on the sidelines for at least a couple of weeks.

Moises Caicedo is available, while Pep Chavarria is back available for selection after missing the last few games following an injury picked up in training.

Cole Palmer returns following suspension and is set to join Morgan Rogers in attack. With Joao Pedro injured, Danny Welbeck will be pushing for a start against his former side. Emmanuel Emegha featured against Liverpool and will be keen for more minutes on Saturday.

Estevao Willian was an unused substitute in the Carabao Cup exit, but will be keen to be given a chance.
