After an incredibly poor run of results and performances, Chelsea have made the decision to sack Liam Rosenior after just three months in charge of the club
Last night, Chelsea fell to yet another defeat, comprehensively beaten 3-0 away to Brighton and Hove Albion on the South Coast.
This made it five Premier League defeats in a row, all without scoring a single goal, a record last matched over 100 years ago.
There had been talk that Chelsea were willing to give Liam Rosenior until the end of next season before making a decision on his future, seeing the bright young manager as a long-term project.
However, the recent form has been so bad - as alluded to with the above stat - that the club has taken matters into its own hands, and has decided to sack Rosenior after just three months in charge of the club.
During this brief spell in charge, the 41-year-old oversaw 23 games, winning 11, losing 10, and drawing 2. However, seven of those 10 defeats had come in the last eight games.
The two defeats before that were crucial, too. Although he got off to a good start, the team lost both Carabao Cup semi-finals to Arsenal, who were knocked out of the other domestic cup by Championship side Southampton, and lost the Carabao final to Manchester City.
Then, when we look at Rosenior's wins, they include wins over Championship sides Charlton Athletic, Hull City, and Wrexham, as well as Port Vale, who are about to be relegated from the third tier. It also includes a win over the Cypriot side Pafos in the UEFA Champions League.
Overall, the most impressive wins were probably the 3-2 win away to Napoli, although even then, it was an Antonio Conte side, whose teams notoriously struggle in Europe, and the 4-1 win away to Aston Villa, which was a very good overall performance. Unfortunately, that victory was not built on. The team has not actually scored a goal in the Premier League since then.
Meanwhile, Callum McFarlane will oversee things until the end of the 25/26 season. The coach had previously taken charge of the 1-1 draw away to Manchester City and the 2-1 defeat to Fulham.
Since then, club legend John Terry expressed his disappointment at not being given the opportunity, so it will be interesting to see what he thinks now. Well, good luck to the guy - it doesn't get much bigger than his first game, where the team will take on Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend. Let's see.
