In a match with a dramatic ending, Chelsea secured the victory after a goal from Buurman, securing a place in the semifinals.

After suffering their own midweek disappointment, being eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal, Chelsea started this match well and managed to break Tottenham's well-organized defense just before halftime, when Kerr headed in a cross from Keira Walsh.

It was a goal the Blues deserved, having developed very positive play without creating too many clear chances, but it did not dampen the Spurs' spirits.

The visitors had some brilliant moments in the first half, frustrated by Niamh Charles' good defense on two occasions in particular, and equalized just seven minutes after halftime, when a free kick from Summanen completely caught Hampton off guard.

It looked like it was going to be a cross from an open angle, but the Finnish international instead sent the ball over the English goalkeeper to score a goal that would open up the match completely.

From there, both teams had numerous chances. The clearest were for Chelsea, when Kerr should have scored after receiving a gift in Spurs' area, and Ellie Carpenter missed a header at an empty net from a few yards, but Tottenham also had opportunities, with Amanda Nilden forcing Hampton into a questionable save before Julie Blakstad sent a header well wide.

Extra time seemed inevitable until Buurman stepped up to become the unexpected hero of the match. The 19-year-old player has been outstanding in Chelsea's defense since she had more opportunities after the turn of the year and deservedly grabbed the headlines when she drove into the box in the final minutes, dribbled past a defender, and then sent the ball into the top corner, to give the Blues the lead again just four minutes from the end.

This qualified her team for the semifinals of this competition once again, in their attempt to add a fifth FA Cup in six seasons after the League Cup triumph in March.

Standout performances:

Lauren James was at the center of everything good Chelsea did, dictating play and creating numerous chances.

Sam Kerr had an up-and-down day. She broke the deadlock and did well in possession, but she really should have scored at least one more goal with a great chance shortly after Spurs' equalizer.

Keira Walsh was a little overwhelmed at times when the match became more dynamic, but overall did well. She was great with the ball and delivered a brilliant cross for Kerr's goal.

Veerle Buurman took over at left back, replacing Charles just before the hour mark, and settled in perfectly before scoring the winning goal with four minutes left.
