Chelsea have now reportedly enquired about the goalkeeper regarding a possible move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

One area where Chelsea had a lot of issues during the previous campaign was with their goalkeepers, both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen committed some serious mistakes which costed the Blues dearly last season.

That would certainly be on the mind of the Blues' management going into the summer transfer window as they could look to add to their list of goalkeepers during the coming months.

Certainly it won't be an easy decision for the Chels to make as both Sanchez and Jorgensen have the quality to start games for Chelsea and are already on their roster.

On the other hand Mike Penders is also looking to make his mark at Stamford Bridge as he is now taking part in Belgium's World Cup campaign as back-up for Thibaut Courtois.

Although as reported by MilanNews24 (h/t GOAL), the Blues are exploring other options, as they are reportedly involved in talks with Maignan's agent, Jonathan Kebe.

The Blues have enquired regarding the financial side of the deal but are yet to table an official offer to the Italian club.

Maignan is undoubtedly one of the top goalkeepers currently in Europe, and adding to that, the shot stopper is also the undisputed starter in the French national side in the ongoing World Cup.

But will AC Milan listen to offers for their number one keeper this summer as they recently renewed his contract till 2031 and new manager Ruben Amorin also values the French international as a key figure for the upcoming campaign.

Despite the Rossoneri's failure to qualify for the Champions League at least they will be taking part in the Europa League, whereas the Blues' tenth place finish in the Premier League during the previous season means no European football for the next campaign.

While all this might look like a definitive road block for the Chels, the report also suggests that the 30-year-old is now looking for a move to England's top tier in order to add to his resume and the Blues might just take advantage of the shot-stopper's ambitions and cash in on the situatuion.

Now with Xabi Alonso ready to take charge, certainly the Spaniard will need to make a decision during the upcoming weeks on whether the Blues will look to inject 20-year-old Penders into the first team with probably Sanchez being the starting goalkeeper.

Or will they bring in Maignan in order to add competition and squad depth in that position this summer?
