A former Chelsea manager sparked speculation after delivering a message that Blues fans interpreted as “revenge” against the club.
Enzo Maresca left Chelsea under circumstances that were not exactly amicable. It is worth noting that the Blues fired the Italian coach earlier this year after he complained about a lack of understanding from the club’s board. His departure, combined with these pointed accusations, only intensified media coverage.
Currently, the manager is out of work. However, he is doing everything possible to stay in the spotlight. For example, he appeared on the podcast Mundo Maldini. His comments on the program have seriously worried Chelsea fans. Some even detected a revenge plan by the former coach, hidden in his praise for one of the team’s defensive leaders.
Maresca spoke glowingly of Marc Cucurella on the podcast: “I adore him. I think he is the ideal player for any coach: an incredible, humble guy who works every day and, simply, a winner. With me, he also discovered something in himself: his goal-scoring ability. He scored seven or eight goals, something he had never done in his life.”
It was that last line that sparked sensational conclusions: that Maresca might try to sign Marc for his next club. However, carrying out such a plan would require patience. Online, many believe the only real way to achieve it would be for Maresca to take over at Manchester City or another club willing to pay more than €40 million.
Even during his time at Chelsea, the former assistant to Pep Guardiola at City had already been linked to the head coaching job in Manchester, though it never went beyond rumors and internal reports.
As for his future, Maresca preferred not to comment on the podcast: “We’ll see what happens next season.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s current form is not positive, having suffered a streak of four consecutive losses, a run that has not happened since 1993. Two of those were humiliating in the round-of-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain with a resounding 8-2 aggregate in favor of the Parisians, ending the dream of winning a third Champions League.
In the Premier League, they were defeated by Newcastle and Everton, the latter being a direct competitor for European places and already closing in. It should be noted that due to these two setbacks, the Blues fell to sixth place in the overall standings, so for now they would only qualify for the Conference League, something that, for fans, falls far below the club’s expectations.
