According to high profile reports, a Chelsea first team defender is being linked with a move to Italy and Serie A ahead of the summer transfer window
Last week, it was confirmed that Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah would be drafted into England's World Cup squad to replace the injured, and fellow Cobham graduate Tino Livramento.
Coincidentally, the defender was actually in America on holiday anyway, and was talking about how he had been shopping in Times Square when he checked his phone to see a text from Thomas Tuchel, who had given him his break at Stamford Bridge.
Despite already being on US soil, England's opening game against Croatia came a little too soon, but he will be available for their second game against Ghana tomorrow evening.
It's great to see a second Chelsea representative in the squad alongside Reece James, after Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill were not selected. Some are a little surprised the latter was not called up instead of Chalobah once Livramento picked up the injury.
However, although there are two Chelsea players in the squad for now, perhaps that will not be the case for much longer. Indeed, as Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chalobah is of interest to Serie A side Como and former Blue Cesc Fabregas.
According to Romano, the defender is a new name for Como that they really like, however the valuation requested by Chelsea is much more than what they would like to pay. Therefore, as of today (Late on on Sunday the 21st of June), no deal is currently close. He also states that the player likes the idea of playing over in Italy, whilst Chelsea rate him very highly.
Interesting one. We have seen an awful lot of British players play in Serie A of late. There is Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour at Napoli, another former Cobham graduate in Fikayo Tomori at AC Milan, Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, Che Adams at Torino and so on and so forth.
A lot of these players have had a lot of success, too, so you can see why that sort of move would be appealing to a player. Especially to play under Fabregas - Chalobah would have grown up at Cobham watching the Spaniard play and win two league titles in SW6. That has to be appealing to him for sure.
It's interesting that Romano states there is a big gap in valuation. Just yesterday, Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC reported that the 27-year old was a player who would potentially be allowed to leave this summer, and with only two years left on his contract, you have to wonder: Are Chelsea simply asking for too much, or are Como lowballing? Because his value cannot be too high.
