Chelsea coach Rosenior confirms that two important players for the club, winners of the 2025 Club World Cup, are close to returning to action.
The Blues receive a boost ahead of the decisive duel with Manchester United, after Rosenior confirmed that Fernandez is again available. The World Cup winner missed the FA Cup win over Port Vale and the league match against Manchester City due to an internal suspension for comments about a possible move to Real Madrid, but has already rejoined the main group.
In the pre-match news conference, the coach said: “Enzo has reintegrated, he has trained very well and is available. The group has responded fantastically.”
Rosenior confirmed that Levi Colwill, a 23-year-old defender, will play with the reserve team Saturday in a closed-door friendly. The player is recovering from a serious knee injury suffered in the preseason and is already working to return before the end of the season.
“I hope so (that we see Levi before the end of the season), as he is an exceptional player and a leader in the locker room,” Rosenior added. “Levi will play some minutes with the under-21 team tomorrow, which is fantastic for him.
Such a serious injury requires a long rehabilitation period. I want to make sure he is 100% physically before bringing him back to the first team. The match was not organized just for him, but we believe it is the best thing at this time.”
Rosenior spoke about the injured defenders, Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James. “Trevoh trained today, although in a modified way. We still have to decide, but he is very close. Reece will take a little longer,” the coach said.
Chelsea faces a key week. After hosting United, they will visit Brighton and then play the FA Cup semifinal against Leeds. There are two very different scenarios. The first is that they get wins in both league matches and (with a combination of other results) end the week back in Champions League positions, which is very important for the club’s aspirations and to be an attractive destination for players in the summer transfer window.
Likewise, if they beat Leeds, putting themselves in the FA Cup final, just one match away from the possibility of lifting a trophy this season, something the team greatly needs. But there is also the other scenario: that they are defeated in both league matches, falling out of European competition positions, and that they cannot beat Leeds, adding another failure, and making the situation heated in west London.
