As Chelsea try and shake off the defeat of the FA Cup final, we take a look at what sort of game we can expect against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow night
On Tuesday evening, Chelsea will face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on match day 37 of the Premier League season.
In the past few weeks, there had been some hope amongst the fanbase that the Blues could relegate Spurs in this game, ten years on from 'The Battle of the Bridge' that saw a 2-2 draw secure the league title for Leicester City at their expense.
However, results in the past couple of weeks mean that is no longer possible. In fact, with goal difference taken into consideration, a draw would more or less keep Spurs up. A win would 100% confirm as much.
Nevertheless, if they lose both games, and West Ham United win their final game of the season, they would still be relegated. So, there is incentive for Chelsea to get all three points and at least take it to the final day.
In any case, what can we expect from our visitors?
It has been a completely turbulent season for Tottenham Hotspur. They are currently on their third manager of the season, after Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor were sacked. They then turned to Roberto De Zerbi, who seems to have made an improvement in his short tenure so far.
Their first win of 2026 came against Aston Villa on the 3rd of May, where former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher opened the scoring with a very good finish from outside the area, something he did from time to time in SW6.
In terms of dangermen, striker Richarlison has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in just 18 Premier League starts this season, and has scored against Chelsea in the past.
Last time out against Leeds United, forward Mathys Tel scored with a lovely curling strike into the corner. The youngster has been inconsistent during his time at Spurs, but definitely has the pace and ability to cause issues.
During that game last week, playmaker James Maddison made his year long return after an ACL injury in pre season. He immediately looked to get on the ball and make things happen, which is even more necessary now, with the recent ACL injury to previously linked Chelsea player Xavi Simons.
Considering that was his first game back, Maddison probably won't start here, but he could certainly play a role in the second half. Those three players would certainly be the biggest potential thorns in the Chelsea side. Let's see.
At the back, Spurs have been pretty poor this season, and will be without captain Cristian Romero through injury. At right-back, Pedro Porro is likely to be the team's biggest creative outlet, but he can be found wanting defensively, and the Blues should look to exploit him in behind.
