Chelsea and Liverpool are set to battle for the services of a star defender from the Belgian Pro League. The highly touted Swiss center back must decide which Premier League giant to join.
The top teams of the Old Continent are always on the lookout to shape those maneuvers they consider fundamental in the market. Ahead of the upcoming transfer windows, the proliferation of rumors will capture the attention of followers of this elite discipline.
As for this story, it is crunch time for Chelsea, which is in the midst of a rebuilding phase under the guidance of its manager, Liam Rosenior. Aware of the importance of enhancing the performance of its defensive system, the London squad has set a new objective.
As reported by The Sun, its executives are monitoring the performance of Roggerio Nyakossi, 22, with OH Leuven. The defender is convincing with his outstanding performance, so it should be noted that he has another great admirer in the Premier League.
The reason is that the young footballer has also made his way onto Liverpool’s shopping list. Thus, everything indicates that a spectacular pulse will occur between these two English heavyweights for the Swiss player’s signing. There is no further bidding between the Merseyside club and the Blues for the center back.
Nyakossi stands out not only for his physique but also for being a constant threat in both boxes, something he has shown in every match with OH Leuven. He has an imposing height of 1.93 m, which makes him an aerial threat, something Stamford Bridge’s team has recently failed at.
He would be a solid option for Chelsea, especially knowing that some sources indicate they would be willing to listen to offers for players like Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Trevoh Chalobah this summer.
In a hypothetical scenario where these players left, the club would have only Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill as experienced center-backs and would need young reinforcements willing to play a rotational role.
Nyakossi’s contract will end soon (summer 2027), which would allow Chelsea to sign him for an amount close to £8 million, which would be a steal when compared to the £44-52 million for players like Kim Min Jae or Murillo.
Another destination the Swiss player could have been signed by Chelsea, but sent on loan to its sister club, Strasbourg of France, intending to give the player playing time, to gain experience in a league of a higher level than the Belgian Pro League, and in the future return to London to seek a place in the first team.
