Chelsea are yet again in the market to sign a highly rated youngster who has been linked with Tottenham and Arsenal.
Going into the summer transfer window, strengthening the midfield will be one of Chelsea's key priorities, as Enzo Fernandez's exit is certainly a possibility with interest from Real Madrid.
The Blues' most prolific playmaker, Cole Palmer, also had an sub-par campaign last time around as he failed to make the England squad for the World Cup.
Now with Xabi Alonso already announced as their new manager, the Chels look clearer on their plans for the summer, as the Spanish manager is already assessing his options.
And now, by the looks of it, Alonso is set to move in with quite a similar transfer policy to the BlueCo. which prefers highly talented youngsters rather than signing some already established stars.
According to a recent report from Daily Mail, the Blues are looking to bring in Ibrahim Maza from Bayer Leverkusen, one of Alonso's former clubs.
Tottenham and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the 20-year-old, who was a constant performer for the German club last campaign despite their managerial problems as they failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Maza only arrived at Leverkusen last summer, signing a five-year contract which will expire during the summer of 2030.
The youngster scored five goals and provided seven assists, mostly playing as an attacking midfielder. If not for his poor finishing, Maza could have easily reached double figures during his debut season for the German club.
The Algerian international is a brilliant dribbler of the ball and adding to that his high footballing IQ holds the potential to break the toughest defensive lines with his visionary passes.
Apparently Maza has all the aspects to become one of the most highly rated midfielders during the coming years, just like his idol Mesut Ozil.
As for the Blues, the youngster brilliantly fits into their plans to build a team for the future, at a time when their current midfielders are being linked with moves away from the club.
Chelsea certainly have the deep pockets despite their recent financial losses as they might submit a more lucrative bid for the youngster this summer than their cross town rivals.
But the Blues' absence from European competitions next season might prove to be a negative when it comes to convince the player for a move, as the Gunners are seemingly ahead of their rivals in that aspect after winning the Premier League.
As of now, Maza looks set to shine in his first World Cup after being named in the Algerian squad for the quadrennial tournament, before deciding on his future this summer.
