Ahead of Chelsea's swift return to play against Liverpool in the Premier League, here is all you need to know about our hosts on Saturday afternoon

At Saturday lunchtime, for the first game of the Premier League weekend, Chelsea make the trip to face Anfield at 12:30 BST for game week 36 of the season.

Despite a run of six Premier League defeats in a row, the team can somehow still qualify for the UEFA Champions League, if they finish sixth and Aston Villa win the UEFA Europa League.

But, to give themselves any chance, they absolutely must beat Liverpool in this game.

So, what can we expect from our hosts?

Safe to say, it has been a very disappointing season for Arne Slot's side so far. Having won the league in his first season in charge, having spent just £15m, they currently sit in fourth place this time around, despite having spent half a billion pounds on new signings.

Former Chelsea winger Mo Salah has not been the same player as he was last season. In 24/25, he scored 29 league goals, whilst providing 18 assists. This time around he has scored just seven goals and provided just six assists.

Having signed from Bayer Leverkusen for over 100 million pounds, Florian Wirtz has struggled to make an impact, with just five goals and three assists in the Premier League this season.

The stand out performer for Liverpool this season has probably been Dominik Szoboszlai. Many expected the 25-year old to actually come out of the starting XI this season with all the new arrivals, but he has stepped up more than anyone else in the team.

Despite having to fill in at right back or on the right wing multiple times this season, Szoboszlai has been very consistent with his output at both ends of the pitch. He has scored four free kicks in the league this season, more than anybody else and one of just two players to score a free kick more than once.

However, despite the all rounded nature of the Hungarian international's game, Liverpool can often find themselves very exposed in midfield. They don't have a natural defensive midfielder, and it is clear that standard midfield duo Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch lack the intensity and/or athleticism to keep up with a number of midfields in this league.

At the back, they look a lot more vulnerable than before. The usually colossal Virgil van Dijk has been well below his standard brilliant best this season, and it is clear that the departing Andy Robertson is not at the same level as he was a few years back.

In goal, Allison has not played since the middle of March, whilst second choice Giorgi Mamardashvili is not expected to be fit for this game. Therefore, third choice Freddie Woodman could well continue in goal, something the team has to take advantage of.
