Chelsea have a player on loan and want about €70 million for him. But that high price makes it difficult to reach a deal.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea is asking almost €70 million for Nicolas Jackson, who remains on loan at Bayern until the end of the season. The London club is under pressure to balance its books after years of heavy spending on young talent.

Chelsea loaned Jackson to Bayern Munich last summer. Since then, the Senegal international has been a useful backup for Harry Kane, especially in recent weeks. However, he has no future at the Bavarian club, as sporting director Max Eberl confirmed. Jackson will leave Saebener Strasse at the end of the season.

Bayern paid €16.5 million for his one-year loan and could have signed him for another 65 million.

Chelsea paid €37 million to Villarreal for Jackson in 2023, and his contract expires in 2033. Due to that long duration, the Blues believe the requested €70 million are appropriate. In about 1,150 minutes with Bayern, the forward has scored 10 goals and provided four assists.

According to The Athletic, it is not yet known whether Chelsea will sell him in the summer or give him a second chance. Everything will depend on the new coach. Liam Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in January, has already been fired.

For now, former assistant Calum McFarlane is leading the team on an interim basis until the end of the season. The favorite for the bench is former world champion Cesc Fabregas, who played four and a half years at Chelsea and now shines with Como in Serie A.

If Chelsea decides to sell Jackson, a high transfer price would complicate operations. According to The Athletic, the club is considering loaning him again with an option or obligation to buy.

Juventus and AC Milan are closely following the player. With Chelsea, Jackson played 81 games in two years, scored 30 goals, and provided 12 assists before his loan to Bayern.

A team in which he has played 30 games (1,152 minutes), in which he has scored 10 times and provided four assists, not bad numbers for a backup role to Harry Kane. The striker’s market value could drop if Chelsea is forced to negotiate, but for now, the asking price remains firm.
