After Rosenior’s abrupt exit on Wednesday, Chelsea has begun searching for his replacement, and it seems they have found him in the local league, a coach who will finish his contract in the summer.
So far, Liam Rosenior has failed to revitalize Chelsea. Under his command, the Londoners were eliminated from the Champions League and have plummeted in the Premier League.
So much so that their chances of qualifying for the next edition of the top continental club competition are minimal. After their 3-0 loss to Brighton, the Blues fell out of the European places. And the Englishman lost his job. His tenure at Stamford Bridge lasted four months.
Despite the good start to the campaign, the Londoners lost their way under Enzo Maresca’s baton. The Italian resigned from his post on New Year’s Day. 2026 started badly for Chelsea.
The hiring of Rosenior, coming from Strasbourg, did not improve the situation at Stamford Bridge. They were not favorites to get past PSG, but they ended up losing by a too-wide margin. 8-2 was the aggregate score of the tie. In the Premier League, the Blues have lost seven of their last eight matches.
Six of them in a row. They have missed the train to qualify for the next Champions League. Their latest disappointment was against Brighton on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was fired, forcing Chelsea to pay him €25 million in severance.
At Stamford Bridge, they are looking for a new coach, and Andoni Iraola is one of the clear favorites to occupy the demanding post. Bournemouth recently announced the surprising departure of the Basque coach at the end of the season, although a vacancy on Chelsea's bench could accelerate his exit.
He is not the only Spaniard on the candidate list. Cesc Fabregas, 38, who played between 2014 and 2019, is another of the top favorites after his impressive work in charge of Italy’s Como.
According to the BBC, Marco Silva, 48, who calmly coaches Fulham, and Edin Terzic, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, are also being seriously considered. However, Germany already has a very advanced agreement with Athletic Bilbao.
For the time being, Calum McFarlane will officially take charge of the team, as he did immediately after Maresca’s departure. Back then, he managed a surprising draw at Etihad Stadium. His first urgent mission will be to qualify Chelsea for the FA Cup final.
