Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea’s already long list of injured players, further complicating the match against Liverpool. Still, they must take the 3 points no matter what.
Without any doubt, Chelsea is living one of the darkest moments of the season; interim coach Calum McFarlane has just confirmed that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez will not be available for Saturday’s match against Liverpool and will have to be replaced by Filip Jorgensen. With this, the goalkeeper joins the long list of injured players on the west London team.
McFarlane commented the following in a news conference: “Rob will also not be available after the injury he suffered against Nottingham Forest. Neto and Garnacho have discomfort, so it seems unlikely they will be available.”
To those players, we must add captain Reece James, who has already been left off the team sheet for several weeks due to the injury he suffered to his thigh. He has been incorporated little by little, as they are being cautious with his situation, protecting him from any possible relapse that could keep him from participating in the World Cup with England.
Levi Colwill is another player who arrived in London with great expectations; however, due to a torn cruciate ligament, he has been absent practically the entire season. He has been given minutes in the last few matches, coming off the bench, but everything seems to indicate he is still not available to meet the demands of a starter role.
Estevao suffered a tear in the femoral biceps of his right leg and underwent intensive recovery treatment because the player longs to be able to participate in the World Cup with his national team, Brazil. Coach Ancelotti has taken it upon himself to appreciate the quality of the young Chelsea player, who has become a key piece of the Verdeamarela attack.
Now, Chelsea’s mission is to leave Anfield with the 3 points; the club is currently in ninth place in the Premier League with 48 points, which makes it impossible for them to qualify for the Champions League the conventional way.
Their only alternative is to fight for sixth place, which is 4 points away, and hope that Aston Villa is the Europa League champion, which would mean the sixth-place team in the Premier League also gains access to the most important club competition in the world.
