Chelsea FC only has the FA Cup left to win if it wants to salvage its current season and compete in Europe next season. The problem: It faces Manchester City.

This Saturday, the most important match of the season for Chelsea will take place. After months of negative results that eliminated them from the Champions League, knocked them out of European spots in the Premier League, and led to the dismissal of their coach, Liam Rosenior, it seems that all the team’s faith rests on winning the FA Cup championship, which would grant them a spot in the next edition of the Europa League.

But this will be a very complicated task because the team will face the most successful team in England over the last decade. Quickly recalling Manchester City’s trophy case in recent years: seven FA Cups (last won in 2022/23), nine League Cups (last won in 2025/26), seven Community Shields (last won in 2023/24), one Champions League (won in 2022/23), and one European Super Cup (won in 2023).

It is clear that these are numbers that would intimidate any team, but Chelsea is no slouch in titles and prestige, so they must go all out and win the title that would make the season not as disastrous as it seems, it would help “make up” the overall picture and calm the fans, who are very upset with how the board has treated the club for a couple of years now.

Remember that Chelsea maintained a stable course at the end of 2025, under the command of Enzo Maresca, the team was in sixth place in the Champions League group stage and was fifth in the Premier League, not to mention that in the summer they won the Conference League and the Club World Cup, but suddenly, on Jan. 1, 2026, the coach was suddenly fired and replaced by Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior.

Something that left everyone confused, both fans and the players themselves, who have expressed on several occasions that they did not understand the change and that it was very difficult to try to understand Rosenior’s style of play, who, months later, after being eliminated or knocked out of important spots in all the competitions they were in (except the FA Cup), was dismissed. Decisions by the board that no one understands. Let’s see how it all ends.
