New sporting director arrives to spearhead Chelsea Women's recruitment and long-term strategy, bringing a unique blend of legal expertise and innovative talent development.
Chelsea Women has confirmed the appointment of Phil Radley as the club's new sporting director. Radley will officially take up his position next month, following his departure from FC Nordsjaelland.
In his new role, Radley will help shape the long-term sporting direction of Chelsea Women, working closely with head coach Sonia Bompastor and the club's leadership team.
He will oversee team planning, recruitment, contracts, and performance strategy to support the continued development and competitiveness of the women's program.
Following his appointment, Radley said: "I am very proud to join Chelsea FC Women. This is a team filled with talent and tenacity, with an incredible history of success and a promising future.
I look forward to collaborating closely with Sonia, the players, and the rest of the club's technical team to help write the next chapter of this club's great success story."
Prior to his arrival at Chelsea, Phil Radley built a solid reputation in European football, specifically within the Right to Dream group and at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, where he worked for more than a decade.
At the Danish club, he played key roles as director of football strategy and general manager, being instrumental in transforming their youth development pathways and implementing an innovative talent model.
His academic background is unique: he began his studies in geology and practiced as a lawyer in the United Kingdom before moving into the sports sector. This legal experience later enabled him to take on roles as a legal adviser to the Right to Dream Group, combining strategic management with contractual and regulatory knowledge.
During his time at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, Radley was instrumental in implementing a unique talent model based on the integration of international academies.
As General Manager and Director of Football Strategy, he led the transformation of youth development structures, focusing on methodological innovation that he now seeks to replicate within the Chelsea Women's environment.
Radley's hiring underscores Chelsea's vision of aligning its women's team with the highest standards of global sports management. His prior experience leading football strategy in a multidisciplinary environment enables him to focus his management not only on the field of play but also on maximizing operational efficiency and the club's international brand development.
