Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella was very clear about where he wants to go this summer, feeling his days at Stamford Bridge are over. His preferred destination is his former home, Barcelona.
Marc Cucurella has made his position clear: he wants to play for FC Barcelona again. However, just because he wants that does not mean it can happen easily. This is mainly due to the needs of the Catalan club. Let us remember that the main need of the club is to sign a center forward, following the departure of its star, Robert Lewandowski, who did not renew his contract and will look for a new club this summer.
Additionally, for Cucurella to be able to arrive at Barcelona, Alejandro Balde would have to leave, and that is not yet certain. What is certain for Cucurella is that he no longer wants to remain at Chelsea next season. Proof of this is that the player has reportedly already communicated this to the board. Despite a contract that keeps him tied to west London until 2029, he considers his time at Stamford Bridge already closed.
Chelsea understands the player's feelings and knows that the best way to conclude this is to sell him during the summer transfer window, of course, as long as they find an offer that matches his quality and what they paid for the player. The club values him between €40 million and €50 million, considering what the club paid for him in 2022 when he arrived from Brighton (€68 million). They think this is a very reasonable price.
Although the player looks favorably upon what was formerly his home, and Hansi Flick likes the defender's qualities, we reiterate that this operation is on hold until it is clear what will happen with Alejandro Balde. Meanwhile, other European clubs are monitoring Cucurella's situation closely. Manchester City, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid are the most interested in the player.
Unfortunately, not even the arrival of Xabi Alonso could convince the Spaniard to stay in west London any longer. Everything seems to indicate that Dutchman Jorrel Hato would fill the position left vacant by "Cucu." A hard blow for the Spanish coach's project, because what the full-back born in Alella offers is very important both defensively and offensively. He is one of the best full-backs in the world.
For now, Cucurella is in no rush to resolve this issue because the World Cup is just around the corner, and he is completely focused on the Spain national team. Everything seems to indicate that he has just launched a new promise related to his hair in case they win the tournament, something similar to what happened at Euro 2024, but this time... a bit more extreme.
