Amidst strong links to the recently vacated Chelsea head coach role, the president of Italian side Como has admitted that Cesc Fabregas can leave if he wishes

Earlier on this week, Chelsea made the decision to sack Liam Rosenior, just three months and 23 games into his six 1/2 year contract in West London.

Since then, several names have been linked to the club, including Andoni Iraola of AFC Bournemouth, Marco Silva of Fulham, and former Chelsea player Filipe Luis, most recently of Flamengo.

One other former Blue, who was also part of the 14/15 double winning side, to be linked with the job is Cesc Fabregas, who has gained plaudits for his work at Serie A side Como.

Whether or not he will actually be the new manager is another story, but there has been a somewhat significant development. Indeed, as Como president Mirwan Suwarso has admitted that Fabregas is free to join Chelsea if he wishes.

When speaking to City AM earlier this week, Suwarso said: "If that (a move to Chelsea) makes him happy, that's him. You want your employees to stay with you as long as possible, but at the end of the day we don't own him and he's free to go to Chelsea if he wishes."

Certainly some interesting comments. Maybe this is reading between the lines, but he almost seems like he actually wants Fabregas to go? Sure he does say you want employees to stay, but the tone of "he's free to go if he wishes" was noticeable.

Perhaps it's as simple as; if he wants to leave for Chelsea, and thus isn't 100% committed to the Como project, he can leave. Otherwise, they'd be more than happy for him to stay.

As for a potential appointment, it would be very exciting. The 38-year old has garnered a reputation for developing young players - most notably Nico Paz - since he joined the Italian side, and appears to have a very attractive style of play.

Although the cliche "knows the club" is incredibly overstated and overused, with little actual meaning to it - in this instance it could be helpful. Now more than ever, it feels like Chelsea need someone who can unite the fanbase.

Furthermore, all reports over the past few days appear to be suggesting that Rosenior did not have the respect of the dressing room, with many players essentially laughing at him. You can be sure that, regardless of anything else, that would certainly not happen with Fabregas at the helm.

Certainly one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks. Let's see.
