A major blow for Chelsea as the concern over Emiliano Martinez remains at focus.

Emiliano Martinez was stretched off during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League.

The 34-year-old was involved in a nasty collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, with the pair both going for the cross which was delivered in the box.

After a lengthy stoppage of around 10 minutes, with the medical team taking extreme precautions, the Argentine was stretchered off the pitch at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and replaced by Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut.

Chelsea managed to keep a clean sheet in Martinez's absence and claim a 2-0 win to end Everton's unbeaten league start to the season. It was also the club's first clean sheet in 23 league matches.

Pedro Neto's brace ensured Chelsea claimed their first league away win since the opening day of the season, when they beat Fulham.

But the main concern is over Martinez, who has now travelled to the hospital to be checked over.

"As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious," manager Xabi Alonso confirmed after the match. "He's in the hospital doing tests. This is what I know so far."

Chelsea have three remaining games in October, playing Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Whether Martinez will be available for any of those games remains unclear, particularly given the concussion protocols. Chelsea have Penders to call on, and his clean sheet in a 20-minute cameo will boost his confidence if he needs to step up.

Pedro Neto shares Emi Martinez message

Man of the match star Neto reflected on the win post-match with TNT Sports and dedicated the victory and clean sheet to Martinez.

He said: "We are really pleased. It's a shame for Emi Martinez. We wish him all the best. The win is for him. We are really happy."

Neto added: "In his honour. We needed that. We did a very good game. Emi deserved this. Mike deserved this as well. We are really happy."

Martinez adds to Chelsea's injury worries

Chelsea are already without Reece James, Jamie Gittens and Emmanuel Emegha.

They lost Pep Chavarria ahead of the game due to a minor issue, and Chelsea will hope it is nothing serious and that he will be available for the next game.

Meanwhile, Malo Gusto missed the win over the Toffees due to illness, Alonso confirmed.

If Martinez is unavailable for Spurs, Penders can come in and develop in some big matches for Chelsea. He wanted his opportunity, and now he looks set to get it.
