Enzo Fernandez’s frustration continues to grow. With Chelsea unable to find confidence and reeling from four consecutive defeats, rumors of the Argentine’s departure only intensify.

Chelsea’s debacle, which on Saturday suffered its fourth consecutive defeat, for now does not drag down Enzo Fernandez, one of the few, rather the only one, who maintains a good level, insufficient to steer a team with alarming defensive fragility and with attackers off target, who have gone more than 300 minutes without scoring.

Enzo was the one who did the most to avoid the harsh 3-0 loss at Everton, a defeat that put the London team out of Champions League places. The Argentine midfielder was involved in the buildup and orchestration of several advances, but in the opponent’s area, he found himself in three finishing chances met by the reflexes and security of Jordan Pickford.

The goalkeeper called up for the March friendlies for the England national team denied him a scissor kick near the six-yard box, a curving right-footed shot, and a one-on-one.

For every dangerous action by Fernandez, Chelsea opened up in defense and created goals for Beto and Ndiaye. Adding the two losses to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and the two in the Premier League, Chelsea conceded 12 goals in four matches.

Beyond Enzo not being among those singled out in this crisis, his frustration is evident over the team’s structural failures and his growing drift away from the collective goals. In the loss to PSG in Paris, he got angry with goalkeeper Jorgensen for risking passes to teammates who were under pressure from opposing markers.

Against Everton, the player loudly insulted an opponent who had fouled him. He also argued with the referee at the end of the first half.

Enzo is beginning to show signs of being out of alignment with some of the club’s decisions. He did not agree with the abrupt firing of Enzo Maresca, the coach who won the Club World Cup, who resisted the sporting directorate’s continual interference in the lineups. “I don’t understand it. Sometimes, as a player, there are things we don’t understand.

Obviously, it was a departure that hurt a lot because we had a lot of identity; he gave us order, but that’s football, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. His departure hurt us, especially in the middle of the season,” he said during the last Champions League series.

Fernandez considered it a very risky gamble to replace him with Liam Rosenior, who had no resume managing elite European teams, plucked from Racing Strasbourg, a club that, like Chelsea, is part of the BlueCo multi-club ownership structure.

All these issues have caused discomfort for Fernandez, leading him to respond, “I don’t know, we’ll see after the World Cup,” when asked whether he would stay for next season. He said that after one of the losses to PSG, with frustration at a high point. In recent months, there has been no shortage of rumors about interest from Paris Saint-Germain and, to a lesser extent, Real Madrid.

Recently, the midfielder changed his representation agency. His interests are now managed by The Elegant Game, made up of former footballer Javier Pastore and Matias Toranzo. Chelsea’s executives have already received a request to improve Enzo's contract, in line with his very good season.

Toranzo, in an interview with Erem News, did not want to encourage an imminent transfer: “Madrid? There’s nothing yet ... it’s too early. Just rumors. There’s still time until May and June; it’s too early.” He also ruled out Saudi Arabia as a destination.

Chelsea’s leadership will act to retain the Argentine; they still count on him for the future. They would entice him financially with a salary increase of up to £400,000 per week, which would place him above the current scale, with Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella as the highest-paid players in the squad.
