According to fresh reports this week, Chelsea and Brazil youngster is said to be putting off the idea of having surgery on his current hamstring injury

In last month's 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United, Chelsea winger Estevao was forced off early on in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Earlier on this week, it was confirmed that the teenager was not part of Brazil's 26 man preliminary squad for this summer's FIFA World Cup as a result of this injury, in really heartbreaking news.

It was previously being reported that Estevao was putting off surgery in order to try and be fit and available for the record World Cup winners this summer, but he has not managed to prove his fitness in time for former Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

However, it is now being reported by Brazilian outlet geglobo - who first covered the news that he was left out of Brazil's 55 man squad - that the winger is planning to continue conventional treatment, without surgery.

They mention that he went to Brazil for treatment at former club Palmeiras, before returning to England and will be re-evaluated by Chelsea's doctors.

Well, this is all a bit strange. You can completely understand him not wanting surgery if he was set to play a part at the World Cup. It is the pinnacle of football, and sport in general - a dream for any player to play in.

However, now we know he will not be going to the tournament anyway, why not just get the surgery? Especially as soon as possible. If he got the surgery now, there is a chance he could be back close to the start of next season.

Sure, if he does not get surgery, he could be back for the start of it anyway, and perhaps not miss a month or two. But it will end up physically costing him. It is so important to get surgery when necessary.

For example, in 2018, Barcelona defender Samuel Umiti put off surgery so he could play in the World Cup with France. He never ended up having any operation and he was never the same player again afterwards, despite being just 25 years old at the time.

You pray that Estevao doesn't become another "what if" in football. It's easier said than done, it's easy for us to say "just get surgery, mate", but he needs to make a conscious decision for the sake of his career. It would be such a shame if this level of potential went down the drain. Let's see.
