The German club officially confirmed on Saturday afternoon that the Senegalese striker will return to West London at the end of his loan deal this summer

Last summer, German giants Bayern Munich made the decision to sign Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson on a season long loan for a reported loan fee of around 16 million Euros.

After the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, game time was going to be limited for the forward in West London this season. With the latter, the club have been vindicated. The former, much less so.

It has been a mixed season for Jackson over in Southern Germany. He has not played many minutes there either, but he has been competing with Harry Kane for a place in the team.

In 1358 minutes across all competitions - about 15 full games of football - the 24-year old has scored 11 goals and provided three assists, a total of 14 goal contributions so nearly one per 90 minutes. A decent record overall.

However, his trial as a back up for the England captain has not proven to be successful enough. Indeed not, as Bayern confirmed that he will not be staying at the club beyond this season with a thank you presentation before their final Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday afternoon. After coming on late on in the game, he scored their fifth goal in a 5-1 win at home to Koln.

Therefore, Jackson has just one more game left in Bayern colours, the DFB Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart next weekend, though he may not see the pitch, we'll have to see.

Otherwise, his next games will be in a Senegal jersey at this summer's FIFA World Cup in North America, before returning to West London this summer. What happens next with the player will be very interesting.

As touched on earlier, things have not worked out for Delap so far. However, it is clear that Pedro is seen as the number nine now, and not as a number ten as he did play at times when he played for Watford and Brighton and Hove Albion.

So, it is clear he would not be first choice at Chelsea either. As someone who turns 25 this summer, there is no point in Jackson being a substitute player, it would do nothing for his career. So, although he will not be returning to Bayern, you'd imagine he will depart the Blues this summer, perhaps on a permanent basis this time.

It's quite a shame. We did see his potential in bursts, but he never quite put it together over a consistent basis. There is certainly a good player in there, that is for sure.
