Five coaches fired in four years. Chelsea no longer know who to put on their bench, and patience runs thinner every time.

Following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior, there are now five coaches who have been fired since 2022 at Chelsea, the year BlueCo ownership arrived in London. The Englishman has been the latest victim of a board that thinks in the short term, and that even disowns its players.

The first to fall was Thomas Tuchel, who did not have the confidence of the board and was the last coach of the Abramovich era. After his firing in September 2022, the club bet on Graham Potter, for whom it paid $10 million to Brighton, and whose poor results, with 1.42 points per game, the worst average for a Chelsea coach in the Premier League this century, led to his firing in April 2023.

After an interim period with Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard, the chosen one was Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine arrived in the summer of 2023, but his results did not convince the board, which parted ways with him after just one season in charge, and with a very poor relationship with the players and the board.

In the summer of 2024, Enzo Maresca arrived. The Italian landed in London as a coach for the future, who came from doing a good job at Leicester. Furthermore, he was backing it up with good results, qualifying the team for the Champions League and winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

However, after a series of poor results, the board had no patience and in January 2026 decided to terminate the contract. This raised the anger of some players, who assured that with the Italian they were building a project for the future. Even so, after 549 days in charge, the longest of the new ownership, they decided to change plans.

His replacement was Liam Rosenior, who was doing a great job at Strasbourg, a satellite team of Chelsea. But again, a series of poor results has led to his dismissal. To these permanent coaches, we must add up to four interim stints.

Now, the Blues are once again looking for who would be the right person to arrive on the bench. Among the options, the main candidates are Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth), Cesc Fabregas (Como), Antonio Conte (Napoli), and Jose Mourinho (Benfica).
