Newcastle is looking for a new manager. On the list is an iconic ex-Chelsea coach who has been away from the Premier League for years.

According to talkSPORT, the Saudi owners of Newcastle are keen to appoint a world-class figure to lead the club into the next stage. Although Eddie Howe has the support of the board, the pressure from the stands has grown after a poor run of results. Additionally, it is perceived that Howe could leave if he feels he can no longer achieve more with the current squad.

The Magpies are preparing for a summer of change, with rumors of departures for stars like Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento, and Anthony Gordon, who are of interest to Bayern Munich and Arsenal. If the club must sell to sign, some see a coach of Mourinho's stature as the ideal piece to guide the transition.

Mourinho, now at Benfica, has always shown his affection for English football and for Newcastle, influenced by his close relationship with legendary Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona.

His possible signing for Newcastle United would be the 12th chapter of his career as a coach. In the Premier League, he already managed Chelsea, with whom he won two consecutive titles in his first two seasons and, after returning, added a third.

At Manchester United (2016-2018), he won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season, plus a league runner-up finish, before leaving the job in the third campaign.

Despite his brilliant track record, many doubt that Mourinho is the best option for the Premier League at this point in his career, as his tactical influence is believed to have diminished after his stints in Turkey and Portugal. Although his fame could attract elite players or a title, there is concern that his confrontational style could generate tensions in the locker room.

If Newcastle were to part ways with Howe, Mourinho would not be the only candidate. Also mentioned is Roberto Mancini, former Manchester City coach, for his extensive experience and his Premier League titles. Additionally, Andoni Iraola, about to leave Bournemouth, would be willing to take on the challenge in the northeast if the position became available.

However, the rumors about Mourinho are the most persistent, as his future could be with the Portugal national team after the 2026 World Cup, when Roberto Martinez's departure is expected, although he could also stay at Benfica.

It remains to be seen whether the appeal of returning to the Premier League with an ambitious project like Newcastle's will be enough to seduce "The Special One" and bring him back to England, but the very idea already divides the Toon Army.
