Despite a difficult season for Chelsea, as many as four players have been recognised by EAFC with a place in their team of the season for the current campaign

It's safe to say, it hasn't been the season that anybody involved with Chelsea would have wanted.

The team were dumped out of the Champions League brutally, lost in the Carabao Cup semi finals to rivals Arsenal, and are in a serious battle to secure a top five position, having lost four straight league games without scoring a single goal in the process.

There is an FA Cup semi final with old foes Leeds United to look forward to this weekend, but even if the team are able to progress past the West Yorkshire outfit, they will likely have to come up against Manchester City in the final.

However, despite all of the above. As many as four Chelsea players have been recognised with a place in EAFC's official Premier League Team of the Season for the 25/26 campaign.

Indeed, as Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella have all been named in the team.

Let's analyse the selections individually. James had had a pretty good season up until his injury, though had played a lot of football in midfield - whether nominally or whilst inverting at right-back. The likes of Michael Kayode and Matheus Nunes are also strong picks.

As for Marc Cucurella, he has been fine, though a bit below his usual level, he would probably admit that himself. Overall, it feels like former Cobham player Lewis Hall as well as Nico O'Reilly have been better than the Chelsea man. But, not a terrible pick necessarily.

The selection of Fernandez is a bit of a joke. Sure, he has racked up goal contributions whilst playing further up the pitch, but his athleticism - or lack there of - is a serious hinderance to the team.

In fairness, Pedro has been brilliant near enough all season. He has scored 14 goals, all from open play, provided five assists and created six big chances in just under 27 full games. Considering how dysfunctional the team have been this season, those are very impressive numbers.

For those that are interested in the base stats, they read as such. For James, 92 rated with; 90 pace, 83 shooting, 92 passing, 88 dribbling, 91 defending and 91 physical. For Cucurella, 93 rated; 90 pace, 80 shooting, 91 passing, 89 dribbling, 93 defending, 89 physical.

Meanwhile, for Fernandez, 94 rated; 88 pace, 88 shooting,94 passing, 95 dribbling, 86 defending, and 86 physical. And finally, for Pedro, 94 rated; 94 pace, 95 shooting, 88 passing, 96 dribbling, 52 defending, 87 physical.
