The high profile journalist has hinted that Chelsea could explore the possibility of bringing a former player to the club as manager this coming summer
This summer, Chelsea will be looking for the sixth permanent manager of the Clearlake era, after Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
That is not even withstanding the interim spells of Bruno Saltor, Frank Lampard and Calum McFarlane (twice).
There are a number of names linked with the job, including the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola, to name but a few.
Well, it is not just Spanish managers who have been linked with the job. Former Chelsea left back Filipe Luis is another name who has been mentioned when it comes to talk of the new manager.
Earlier on this week, it was reported by Critica via Sport Witness that Luis was working urgently to obtain his UEFA Pro License as quickly as possible, so that he could coach in England.
They mention that Chelsea closely monitored his work at Flamengo and seriously considered appointing him, but legal and regulatory issues linked to his coaching license prevented a move from progressing.
In their report, they mention that Championship clubs Middlesbrough, QPR and Watford are attentive to the situation, as well as Chelsea. Surely he's too good for a Championship move though.
Now, this has gained some extra heat as Fabrizio Romano, over on his YouTube channel, said yesterday that another name we have to watch on the managerial market is Luis.
He did not specifically say that in relation to the Chelsea job, it was more of a broad claim, but with there being a managerial vacancy at the club, there is no doubt they will be included in that alongside other clubs.
It would certainly be a very interesting appointment. Back when Maresca was sacked, I suggested that Chelsea at least consider appointing the Brazilian manager. At the time, he was manager of Flamengo, but has since left the club.
And by all intense and purposes, it was suggested he left the club because he had been talking to BlueCo, thinking it was for the Chelsea job, but rather Strasbourg. So, it is clear he would be keen on joining, so long as he gets that Pro License.
No doubt about it, my thoughts on him being a top manager have not changed. It would be a very fun appointment. He had Flamengo playing some brilliant football, as we saw against the Blues at the Club World Cup.
That too and he swept up trophies during his time at the Brazilian outfit, so he knows how to win, both as a manager and indeed as a player, having won the Premier League and Carabao Cup at Chelsea. He also speaks fluent English.
On Saturday evening, he was attending the game of another former club of his, at the Wanda Metropolitano, as Atletico Madrid lost 1-0 to Celta Vigo. With their fans getting tired of Diego Simeone, perhaps Chelsea need to jump in quickly as we know there will be inevitable talk of a Luis return to Atletico in the event of a Simeone depature.
