It will be a clash between Chelsea's free-scoring football and unbeaten Everton's solid defence.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has praised Chelsea’s “attacking talent” but is still confident Everton could cause problems for the Blues ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash.
Under manager Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s games have been rarely dull this season. The Blues have scored the third-most goals in the Premier League this season (15), but they have also conceded the joint-highest (13) in the competition.
Everton, on the other hand, have conceded only five goals from the first six games, the joint-lowest in the league. But they have only found the net eight times, which is why they have only had two wins despite being unbeaten this season.
The two sides are on 10 points each, with Everton sitting fifth ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea on goal difference.
However, while Everton had a disappointing 2-2 draw against Hull City at the weekend, Chelsea will travel north with confidence after an outstanding 5-1 win over Bournemouth.
Dewsbury-Hall, who spent a season at Chelsea before moving to Everton in the summer of 2025, admitted the game will be a challenge.
“Obviously, they’ve got great attacking talent, but we know there are things we could do to cause them a lot of problems,” the midfielder told Everton TV when asked about the upcoming match against his former club.
“We’ve had a great start at home this year, and we want to continue to build on that.
“So, it (will be) a really interesting game because it’s two teams who want to do well this year, and it’s going to be a good test.”
Can Chelsea maintain their attacking form?
David Moyes will likely hope to play a cagey match, in which Everton can minimise the impact of Chelsea’s front three of Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers, and Cole Palmer, in particular.
However, if Chelsea could take an early lead, as they have often done this season, it would force the hosts to play more openly, leaving more space for the visitors to exploit.
It is worth noting, however, that Chelsea have not kept any clean sheets in the league this season, so Dewsbury-Hall, who has directly contributed to three out of Everton’s eight goals, is someone they must look out for.
Neither side are playing in Europe this season, so both Chelsea and Everton have a full week to prepare for this match and will likely field their strongest available starting XI.
Everton won the last time the two sides met at Hill Dickinson Stadium in March. Beto scored a brace before Iliman Ndiaye put the game to bed in the second half to secure three points. Obviously, both left Everton in the summer.
Things have changed at Chelsea since then too. Alonso is now in charge after succeeding Liam Rosenior, and with Chelsea having failed to score only once this season, it will likely take an outstanding defensive performance from Everton to keep a clean sheet.
