Lauren James did not hold back after Chelsea's win over Aston Villa, claiming she deserved two goals despite the official records showing just one.

Chelsea claimed three crucial points after a chaotic match against Aston Villa. The visitors took an early lead through a Chasity Grant goal, before Samantha Kerr equalized. The turning point came in the 23rd minute, when James delivered a dangerous cross that Naomi Girma reportedly deflected into the goal.

However, the forward believes her cross went over everyone and went directly into the net. Four minutes later, James left no room for doubt by scoring her official goal to make it 3-1. Kirsty Hanson then scored twice for Villa, leveling the score at 3-3 before halftime. After a tense second half, Sjoeke Nusken scored a dramatic late winner eight minutes from time to seal a 4-3 home victory.

After the final whistle, James made it very clear that she wants the official records modified to reflect a brace. "I'm claiming both goals. I am very happy to score more goals and help the team," she said.

The forward focused on the team's collective achievement and praised Sjoeke Nusken for her late winner in matchday 19. She added, "Overall, we are happy to win in the end. It is a very tough period right now, with a lot of matches coming thick and fast, and we have another one on Wednesday.

The team worked hard, and Sio scored the winner, so we are very happy. That was the objective today after yesterday's results, to try to control what we can control, play as well as we can, and win the match."

Beyond the debate over her goal tally, James delivered a genuine masterclass in attacking play before being substituted for 19-year-old midfielder Lexi Potter in the 90th minute. Operating as the creative hub, she registered 96 touches and completed 56 of her 63 passes, achieving an impressive 89% accuracy.

Her influence was undeniable, as she provided six key passes and officially registered one assist on Girma's controversial goal. With a total of six shots and two completed dribbles in the 89 minutes she spent on the pitch, the English star was a constant threat, earning the player of the match award for her dynamic performance.

Following this spectacular victory, Chelsea has reclaimed second place in the standings with 40 points. The Blues are nine points behind leaders Manchester City, with only three matchdays remaining and an unfavorable goal difference, making their primary objective securing a Champions League spot for next season.
