Chelsea’s record signing reveals the legendary trio that inspired his game while grounding hype around Stamford Bridge’s newest frontline as Xabi Alonso’s side battles defensive inconsistencies.
Chelsea's £117 million record signing, Morgan Rogers, has enjoyed a fast start at Stamford Bridge since moving from Premier League side Aston Villa.
The England international has scored three goals and provided four assists in seven matches across all competitions for the Blues so far this season.
With the international break now underway, Rogers remains Chelsea’s only representative for England as both Reece James and Cole Palmer continue to nurse injuries. The 24-year-old was a substitute in England’s 3-2 home defeat to newly crowned world champions Spain at Wembley Stadium on September 26 in the UEFA Nations League. Before returning to Stamford Bridge, Rogers is expected to be involved in three more encounters, with two against Czechia and one against Croatia.
Every player grows up with footballing inspirations to model their game around, and the England star was recently asked by the in-house media team who his top three footballers of all time were.
Speaking on CFC Unlocked, he said: “Right in this moment in time, Ronaldo and Messi are clear one and two, they have to be.”
As for third place, Rogers replied: “My personal one would be Neymar.”
Chelsea will be hoping to have their own iconic front three in the years to come. With Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar having the famous ‘MSN’ tag, supporters at Stamford Bridge have been trying to come up with a tag of their own for Chelsea’s statistically deadliest trio in the 2026/27 Premier League so far.
Both Palmer and Joao Pedro are known not to like the proposed taglines of ‘JP Morgan’ and ‘CPR’ for the trio, with Rogers unanimously agreeing during the latest episode of CFC Unlocked.
“I don’t think we’re going to go early with a name… The ones who’ve got names have shown far more than we have. So it’s just the beginning, we need to hold off on it.”
The attacking trio will hope to return against AFC Bournemouth on October 10. Joao Pedro missed the Blues’ 3-0 away defeat to Brentford with a knee injury, which ruled him out of international duty for Brazil. It was the first time Chelsea had failed to score in any game so far this season.
New boss Xabi Alonso won’t be concerned by the attacking patterns witnessed so far this season, but instead by his defence. With just five matches of the season played, the west London side had conceded a league-high 12 goals, with half of them coming from set pieces, despite recruiting former Aston Villa coach Austin MacPhee, who specialises in that specific department.
Chelsea return to action on October 10 against AFC Bournemouth and then make the trip up north for the first time this season to take on Everton. The end of the month sees Alonso’s Blues host both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with a Carabao Cup tie away to Liverpool sandwiched in the middle.
