Palmer has penned a new deal with Chelsea, just two years after signing his last extension.

Cole Palmer has committed to a new eight-year contract with Chelsea after being convinced by his conversations with club owners, sporting directors, and manager Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea and Palmer announced the new deal on Saturday morning, just hours before their Premier League game against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

This is the third iteration of Palmer’s contract with Chelsea, having previously agreed to an extension in August 2024, following his arrival a year earlier.

The new deal ties the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge until 2034, just one year longer than his previous deal.

This is mostly about improved terms in his deal, which, according to The Athletic, is a reward for the attacking midfielder’s importance to the club.

Palmer, who has made 138 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, has proved to be their primary creative outlet. He registered 58 goals and 34 assists for the Blues in this period.

He played an important role in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup-winning campaign in 2025. Individually, he has been named Premier League Young Player of the Season and PFA Young Player of the Year.

He is also widely popular among Chelsea fans, having been voted Chelsea’s Player of the Season after his debut season in 2024.

Palmer convinced to strengthen commitment with Chelsea after talks with club hierarchy

The new contract does not just indicate the club’s high regard for Palmer, but also the player’s trust in the club.

Palmer revealed that he agreed to put pen to paper after convincing talks about the direction of the club.

“Chelsea means a lot to me, and I think the club is going in the right direction,” he explained in an interview with the club’s in-house media.

“So I’m delighted to sign, and I’m obviously very happy.

“Speaking to the owners, to the sporting directors, and obviously the manager, they gave me a lot of confidence, so it was only right to sign.

“Speaking to the players as well, everyone has the same ambitions. I feel like we win major trophies here consistently, and I want to be a part of that and play a big role in it too.”

Under Alonso this season, Palmer has been part of Chelsea’s in-form front three alongside Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro.

He has made seven appearances so far this season, including in all five of Chelsea’s Premier League matches, and has already bagged four goals and two assists across all competitions.

Alonso recently revealed that Palmer’s muscle injury that forced him to withdraw from international duty with England is related to the groin issues that plagued him last season.

Fortunately, after spending the three-week international break recovering from the injury, Palmer is expected to be available to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

While Alonso will want to be cautious about managing Palmer’s minutes, it is undeniable that Chelsea’s odds of winning are much higher when the creative midfielder is on the pitch.
