Chelsea icon Joe Cole recommends the club sign veteran players like Robert Lewandowski and John Stones to bring knowledge and quality to different areas of the pitch.

Joe Cole spoke honestly about the current problem at Chelsea, the eagerness to sign young players in droves without having a veteran close by who can support them on the pitch. He also questioned what the club's strategy is for finding players, mentioning that in the past, Chelsea sought to acquire the best players from the best clubs, something that no longer happens today.

"The mandate at Chelsea was to try to sign the best players in the world, because we were trying to win every competition we could. And that way, you knew where you were signing from. I don't even know where Chelsea is signing from now, that's the truth. We have spent all this money on young players, but they don't have anyone around them. That's the truth," Cole told the SunSport newspaper.

The Chelsea icon took the opportunity to recommend who he thinks would be the best signings the club could make right now. Firstly, Robert Lewandowski, a veteran striker with a killer instinct who has been through several giant clubs in Europe and has established himself as a goalscorer at each one: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and now at FC Barcelona.

As well as John Stones, a player who could leave Manchester City this summer and who, according to Cole, could greatly improve the club's defensive line, not only because of his quality but also because of the knowledge he could pass on to the young defenders. Remember that Stones is a multiple Premier League champion and a Champions League champion with City; he clearly has the experience.

"I think of experienced players who can join the squad and help immediately. If we look at who is available, I think of players like John Stones. Lewandowski is coming to the end of his contract and we need a center forward. He would probably be attracted to the Premier League and living in London; offer him a one-year contract to come play 35 games with us and lend a hand to Liam Delap and Joao Pedro," Cole said.

"It's like gathering the most talented scientists in the world and putting them in a school without good teachers; they are not going to improve," he concluded. This was in reference to the lack of a figure of authority and knowledge on the bench, as it is known that McFarlane is only supporting while they find a renowned coach.
