After years of searching for a forward to break the supposed curse of the No. 9 left by Drogba, it seems they have finally found him. Chelsea may have its man to lead the attack for many seasons to come.

Chelsea has spent years trying to find a forward who can carry the symbolic and sporting weight of the No. 9 left by Didier Drogba. At Stamford Bridge, several high-profile bets have gone down the path of inconsistency and frustration, and over time, the number has ended up carrying a kind of collective burden: the difficulty of fulfilling the role of offensive reference under constant pressure from fans and media.

Since Drogba left an indelible mark on the club, Chelsea has sought successors who would respond with regularity. However, the No. 9 shirt has become a demanding thermometer: it is not enough to score; leadership, intensity in the box, and direct influence on the game are also expected. That context fuels the idea of a "curse" around the role, real or imagined.

In that scenario appears Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian attacker who, despite playing in a league outside the traditional big ones, retains a high valuation in Europe due to his performance and the competitive profile he offers to elite clubs.

Former French footballer Marcel Petit, a well-known figure for his career in European football, argued that Osimhen could be the forward capable of breaking that narrative. In his analysis, the key point is not just the footballing side, but the player's mentality and character on and off the pitch.

Petit noted that when Osimhen left Napoli, he expected him to end up in the Premier League, but instead, he chose to play at Galatasaray. Even so, he stressed that the Nigerian's adaptability and room for growth fit what Chelsea needs to stabilize its most important offensive position for years to come.

Although Osimhen joined permanently last summer, interest in his future has not cooled. Rumors continue in the market about a possible jump to the Premier League, and Chelsea is among the clubs monitoring his situation closely.

The club's intention is clear: to find a long-term plan for the attack. The No. 9 is not just a position in the scheme, but a permanent expectation at Stamford Bridge. And in that context, Osimhen appears as one of the alternatives with the greatest potential to change the story that has accompanied the number since the Drogba era once and for all.
