Chelsea's current stand in captain, Enzo Fernandez, has once again stirred the pot when it comes to his future at Chelsea in the short and long term.

One of the most talked about topics in recent weeks has been the future of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

After the second leg defeat to PSG in the UEFA Champions League earlier this month, the 24-year old made some cryptic comments to Argentine media, casting doubt over his future in SW6.

There has also been talk that that the player is unhappy with his contract situation, and was seeking new terms, despite his current deal being long term. It appears he is pretty frustrated at the moment.

Well, Fernandez has now managed to put his future even further up in the air with another interview. Chelsea's number 8 was asked "Which other City would you like to live in?" and responded by saying "Madrid, I like Madrid very much. It's a beautiful city, it's similar to Buenos Aires (Argentine capital)."

Wow, what can you even say at this point. The current stand in captain in the absence of Reece James has told media that he would like to live in Madrid whilst being frequently linked to Real Madrid. However you dress it up, the optics are once again very poor.

Aside from Los Blancos, Fernandez has also even been linked to Atletico Madrid in the past. There is a serious Argentine contingent over there - manager Diego Simeone but also his son Giuliano, as well as Nico Gonzalez, Thiago Almada, Julian Alvarez, Nahuel Molina and Juan Musso.

In theory, there is nothing wrong with him liking Madrid as a place. It is a great city, there is no doubt about that. But there are some things you just keep to yourself as a player.

You compare his recent interviews to the recent words of Moises Caicedo, who, when asked about Real Madrid links, was quick to shut anything down and said he wanted to become a legend at Chelsea, and well - it's night and day.

Based on that, it feels harsh that Fernandez is the vice captain and not his Ecuadorian counterpart. Surely, if Liam Rosenior and his staff have seen these quotes, they will rethink who is the vice captain and skippers the team in James' absence.

Because once again, no matter your thoughts, Chelsea being lead out every week by a player who is clearly keen to leave, is just a terrible look. Without trying to be nostalgic, imagine this happening in the era of Petr Cech, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.
