After a productive month despite a slow finish to proceedings, Brazilian forward Joao Pedro has been named Chelsea's Player of the Month for February.

It's safe to say that the month of March was not what anyone at Chelsea would have wanted or hoped for.

The team was unceremoniously dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by defending champions PSG, and lost Premier League games to Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Everton without scoring a single goal in response.

However, a select few players still did play well. Including Joao Pedro, who has been named Chelsea's Player of the Month for March

Although the Brazilian forward tailed off towards the end of the month, the hat-trick and assist against Aston Villa were enough on their own to merit this award, with a goal away to Wrexham in the following game.

Plus, let's be fair, the bar is very, very low after such a disappointing time for the team. So, it's pretty reasonable for Pedro to get this award.

The key now is for Chelsea to get the 24-year old firing again. It is no coincidence that when his productivity dried up, the results worsened dramatically. Pedro's firing helps the team hugely.

A goal off the bench on Saturday will have done his confidence no harm at all, though it is important to remember that Port Vale are at the bottom of League One and are about to be relegated to the fourth tier of English football.

The easiest game Liam Rosenior's side will play between now and the end of the season - whoever that may be against - will be several times harder than Port Vale at home. Still, scoring is a great habit to have, and it's good for the Brazilian to be back on the scoresheet.

Let's hope there is much more competition for the April Player of the Month award. Let's hope that the other big names stand up - Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez (after he returns from suspension), Moises Caicedo, and so on and so forth. You get the idea.

There is still plenty to play for this season. It has now been confirmed that the Premier League will have five UEFA Champions League spots, so if the team is serious, they could secure qualification. Then there is the massive FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.

So, there is a chance for players to step up and win awards. Let's hope that the April Player of the Month goes to someone who has the team 1) in a better chance for Champions League qualification, and 2) the club in an FA Cup final. Let's see.
