The young Barcelona talent was pursued by both Chelsea and Manchester United, yet he chose to remain at the Blaugrana club and now reflects on his decision.

Barcelona’s young prospect, Fermin Lopez, has spoken openly about his decision to reject a transfer to Chelsea early in his career, insisting that he is exactly where he wants to be.

The young footballer has quickly become a key piece in the Blaugrana midfield, but his rise was nearly interrupted by Premier League interest. Before establishing himself as a first-team starter, Chelsea made a strong effort to lure the youngster to London during a period of great uncertainty at the Catalan club.

The buzz surrounding a possible transfer to Stamford Bridge created a difficult environment for the player. However, despite the allure of a lucrative move to an English team, the Spain international remained focused on proving his worth to the club that developed him.

In statements to Tot Costa on Catalunya Radio, the midfielder reflected on the intense rumors that marked his summer. “It was a bit complicated; I felt a lot of pressure, but I never wavered. I couldn’t say anything,” Lopez admitted when referring to the Chelsea rumors.

Even though Manchester United is now reportedly closely monitoring his progress, Fermin’s loyalty remains firm. "Barca renewed my contract, and I am very grateful. As far as I’m concerned, I would stay here forever,” he said, effectively putting an end to speculation about a possible departure.

The 22-year-old is not only seeking to succeed at the national level; he has his sights set on the 2026 World Cup in North America. After a spectacular season, he believes he is ready to become a regular in Luis de la Fuente’s team.

“The truth is, I see myself there,” he added. “There is still a bit of the season left, but I am very happy to be here, and I hope I can make it to the World Cup.”

Fermin is currently with the Spanish national team, which will face Serbia and Egypt during the international break. Afterward, he will return to Catalonia to prepare for two consecutive matches against Atletico Madrid in La Liga and the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
