Chelsea’s defensive struggles have forced them back into the market, and now a €80M-rated Sporting star is in their sights.

Chelsea has started a project on young, talented players around the world in the last couple of years. They have invested heavily in young, talented players across different roles and offered them long-term contracts to give them the opportunity to grow and mature.

On the other hand, the club's objectives have remained the same: to fight for important goals and to win trophies through a philosophy of attacking play. Last season under Maresca, the Blues won two cups and qualified for the UEFA Champions League. This season, the club has had ups and downs, and the Blues changed their coach from Maresca to Rosenior.

With Rosenior, Chelsea is fighting in order to qualify for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League. Rosenior's journey at Chelsea started well, but recent results have been bad, and for the moment, the Blues are out of the next UEFA Champions League edition.

The players are fighting on the pitch, while the club is working on the upcoming transfer market this summer. They are watching several players across several positions to find the right profiles for the team next season.

One area where the club has had many problems this season has been the defense. The defenders of the Blues have made several mistakes this season, leading the team to lose many points. According to SportWitness, Chelsea is scouting Sporting Lisbon in Portugal for their left-back, Maxi Araujo.

Maxi is one of the most important players for the Portuguese team and has played a huge part in the team's successes over the last couple of years. He joined Sporting in 2024, and his contract expires in 2029.  He has played a total of 81 matches for Sporting, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists. This season, Araujo has played 35 matches, scoring 6 goals and recording 4 assists.

These statistics demonstrate that the left-back is very good at scoring goals and at helping his teammates score. He is a player who is very technical, and also very fast and physically strong. With his performances this season, he has attracted the interest of different important teams.

Chelsea is very interested in signing the left-back and is ready to make a generous offer in order to secure his services. But they aren’t the only club, as other important teams like Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are also looking at Maxi.

The player has an 80 million-euro release clause in his contract, which puts Sporting in a strong position with clubs interested in signing him.
