After the sudden sale of Andrey Santos, Chelsea already has his replacement lined up. Valentin Barco, the Strasbourg midfielder, is said to have reached an agreement with the Blues, pending official announcement.

Andrey Santos's departure from Chelsea was quite rushed, as the time between the first rumor of Manchester United's interest in the player and the official news of his sale was only a few hours.

Everything seems to indicate that the Red Devils' board was somewhat desperate, as other signings such as Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes fell through because they opted for Manchester City and Tottenham, respectively.

However, Chelsea's actions also leave many questions. For example, did they sell him so suddenly because of the club's need to have income? It is important not to forget that the club is going through a complicated financial situation.

Or could it be that they did it because they already have a replacement for the player? A player that everything points to as about to arrive at Stamford Bridge — although there is still no official announcement — is Valentin Barco.

Barco is currently competing in the World Cup; he is only 21 and had an excellent season at Strasbourg. Although he began his career at Boca Juniors playing as a left back, it was during his time at the French club that he was gradually converted into a midfielder, registering 30 goal-scoring chances created during 2025/26.

He has that in common with Santos, as both first arrived at the Ligue 1 club, and after a couple of solid seasons in which they stood out for their abilities to create dangerous opportunities and make their team play, they ended up being called up by Chelsea, thanks to the fact that both clubs belong to the same owner, BlueCo.

Everything seems to indicate that once the World Cup concludes, his arrival in West London could be made official. Xabi Alonso will enjoy having him in his squad, as he is a young dribbler; he is not afraid to take on the opponent (or at least try). In addition, Barco recorded 52 direct fouls in the 27 matches he played last season. That is, approximately 2 fouls per match, which makes him a "free-kick generator."

For now, we reiterate that nothing is official, so we will be cautious on this topic, but it is not a bad idea to begin to form a picture of what it would be like for the club to have him in its ranks. Meanwhile, the coach continues with his preseason as certain players seek to earn a place in the starting lineup for the upcoming season, and others, like Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho, seek to earn their place.
