Stamford Bridge or Camp Nou? Chelsea and Barcelona want to sign a young prospect who is grabbing everyone’s attention in the Eredivisie.
According to Voetbal International and Sport, the battle for Ruud Nijstad is intensifying. Chelsea and Barcelona are closely following the defender, who has risen quickly at Twente and stands out for his composure. VI assures that the club has “gold in its hands,” and both giants are already preparing their moves for the next transfer window.
Despite the appeal of Stamford Bridge or the Spotify Camp Nou, the Dutch club does not want to let its star leave without a fight. Nijstad has already played 20 matches for the first team, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.
Therefore, Twente is asking for about €8 million for the young player. Barcelona, considering the amount excessive for his stage of development, has halted any move for now, although it does not rule out trying again later.
The Enschede club is acting to secure its future with this promising young player. Twente, which already has him under contract until 2027, wants to extend his deal amid interest from richer clubs.
A new lucrative agreement and the promise of playing time in the Eredivisie could convince him to stay in the Netherlands. For a club that prides itself on its youth academy, losing him soon would be a hard blow.
“Either I renew or I leave,” Nijstad told ESPN. “I am an FC Twente player now, and I focus on football; my parents and the club handle the rest.”
The player’s future is in his hands: either he stays in his stable environment or makes the jump to an elite international academy. His contract negotiations are approaching, and the big European clubs are watching him, so he will soon have to decide on his next step.
This signing would be part of Chelsea’s new policy, which aims to focus on emerging stars who feel a connection with the club, thus avoiding signing already established stars who seek the club only for financial reasons or as a springboard to reach elite clubs in Europe.
For now, one can only wait for the summer transfer market to arrive and see what step the young Nijstad decides to take; what is clear is that a player with his characteristics would do wonders for the Blues.
