Crystal Palace host Ipswich Town in the Premier League this Saturday as Pierre Sage's side looks to make it three wins on the bounce.
Crystal Palace will go in search of their second win of the Premier League season when they host Ipswich Town on Saturday at Selhurst Park, Palace's first 15:00 home kick off of the season.
Pierre Sage’s side will come into the game off of back to back wins after coming from behind twice to beat Fulham and putting three past Middlesbrough in midweek.
History certainly favours Palace in this matchup, and the Selhurst crowd will be hoping to see a similar outcome from recent years.
Fixture History
Looking back over the previous meetings between the two sides, it’s fair to say that Palace should come into this as favourites.
In the previous ten meetings, Palace have won seven, with Ipswich taking three points twice and one game ending level.
Last time Ipswich were in the league, Palace won both fixtures 1-0. Ismaïla Sarr scored an 82nd minute winner in the home game, whilst Jean-Philippe Mateta struck at Portman Road to earn all three points.
The clubs have met 57 times over the years, the first match between the sides coming all the way back in 1957/58 FA Cup third round, the Tractor Boys winning 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
In that time, the wins were split almost evenly, Palace coming out on top 23 times with Town victorious on 21 occasions, 13 times when the sides couldn’t be separated.
Looking solely at fixtures at Selhurst Park, Palace have won eleven and lost seven times. When you isolate that to Premier League fixtures only, Palace have won all three.
Opposition Focus
Under Gary O’Neil, Ipswich started their season with a strong display at home to Sunderland, winning 2-1, but went on to lose their previous two league games against Manchester United, a 5-2 defeat, and Liverpool, a 2-0 loss respectively.
Ipswich come into the game off the back of seven days' rest, their Carabao Cup third round tie taking place next week against Arsenal. Palace will have only had three days since their midweek win over Boro.
Ipswich were busy in the window, spending around €60 million. However, where they didn’t strengthen was in defence. Aside from singing Chadi Riad’s World Cup partner Issa Diop, there was little done to address their backline, which has seen central defender Dara O’Shea forced to play right back, as Jacob Greaves continues to start in central defence, and has made a handful of mistakes this season already.
Ipswich ship goals, conceding nine in their opening four games of the 2026/27 season, compared to Palace’s eight. This fixture could conjure up a fair few goals in itself as a result.
Town will see this as a good opportunity to get some points back on the table after two disappointing, but likely expected defeats. Palace will view the game as a chance to extend their winning run and continue to build momentum into the final two games before the international break, which in itself will allow Pierre Sage a chance to get on the grass and further develop his side.
Expected lineup
There are only three guaranteed absences for Sage and Palace this weekend, with Chadi Riad out and Jean-Philippe Mateta still some way off a return to first team football. Ismaïla Sarr also remains out, but Sage said that he was likely to return to training on Monday in his pre-match presser.
The midweek win allowed a handful of new players the opportunity to impress, and some of them took that, as well as more consistent squad players staking a claim to start.
Ben Chilwell assisted Jørgen Strand Larsen’s second goal, and will be giving Sage a headache in terms of left wingback selection. The Norwegian striker bagged a brace and will surely start up front as doubts remain surrounding Eddie Nketiah’s fitness.
Elsewhere, both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Honest Ahanor impressed as Palace kept just their first clean sheet of the season. The Japanese international showcased his ability in possession, whilst Ahanor demonstrated that although he is only 18, he can be relied upon to perform.
This could see a shakeup in the back three, as Sage continues to juggle five starting quality centre backs with just three positions available.
With that in mind, our expected eleven for Saturday’s game is as follows.
D.Henderson (GK), A.Khalaili, T.Tomiyasu, A.Disasi, H.Ahanor, T.Mitchell, A.Wharton, Q.Timber, D.Kamada, Y.Pino and J.Strand Larsen.
Prediction - Crystal Palace 2-0 Ipswich Town
