An October Preview for Crystal Palace Women's matches.
After September saw their return to the Women's Super League and the beginning of the Players League cup, which brought a highly congested fixture schedule, Crystal Palace Women will have another hectic match with five matches and a one week international break.
WSL - Aston Villa (A)
With Palace having travelled to Birmingham City last Sunday they travel back up again for another Women's Super League game, this time facing Aston Villa.
Palace last faced Aston Villa in their last season in the WSL, with Palace winning the second fixture 3-1 for their second ever top flight victory.
The match takes place on Sunday 4 October at 2pm and will be available to watch on Sky Sports + or Youtube.
Villa have had a difficult start to the season picking up just two points with draws against Chelsea and Brighton, leaving them in the relegation zone just above Charlton.
They finished last season 9th in the table after losing their last four games straight. Under manager Natalia Arroyo they will be looking for their first points of the season.
After Palace's disappointing draw to Birmingham City last weekend this could be the perfect game for Jo Potter's side to get their second win of the season, with their opponents having struggled in the season so far.
International Break
Palace will then face a short international break from Monday 5 October to Tuesday 13 October. A number of Palace players could be featuring for their countries in World Cup Qualifiers or friendlies with Kirsty Howat already called up for Scotland.
The Eagles may also take part in a friendly or behind closed doors match during the week if Potter is looking to continue pushing for improvements before their next game, but this is uncertain.
WSL - West Ham (H)
After the break Palace will then host West Ham on Sunday 18 October 12pm at the Brough Sports Ground. The game will be available to watch on Youtube.
The Hammers sit just below Palace in the table currently, with one win and three losses so far in the league.
Last time Palace were in the WSL they struggled against West Ham losing 7-1 and 5-2. West Ham struggled in the WSL last season finishing 10th in the league.
With the match coming after the break both teams will be on top form and will come out strong, meaning this could be a great and competitive fixture to watch.
Players Cup - Southampton (A)
Palace then are quickly back to the grind for their next mid-week clash in the Players Cup as they travel down to Southampton for game week three.
Southampton are on strong form in the WSL2 this season, as one of the teams hopeful of winning promotion to the WSL. Palace have had a strong experience facing Southampton, but haven't managed to get a result since early 2024.
Last season Palace lost their second fixture to Southampton 3-1 in a disappointing result for Potter, with their previous match being an end to end game which finished 4-4.
This match gives another flash back to Palace's WSL2 days, but also a chance for some rotation with players who are used to playing at that level.
WSL - Chelsea (H)
This is Palace's most difficult fixture of the month, as they face a really established and strong WSL side. Palace will host Chelsea on Sunday 25 October at 12pm at the Sutton United ground.
Palace's 0-0 draw against Arsenal does bring some promise to how they may aim to face Chelsea, although their disastrous defeat to Tottenham last month does raise some prominent areas of the defence for Potter to work on.
Chelsea have started the season of on strong form, especially beating Arsenal 1-0 in the London Derby at the end of September. Palace's last game against Chelsea was an FA Cup match in January where they lost 5-0.
Players Cup - London City (A)
Their final match of the month sees them travel not very far at all to face London City Lionesses in a match that could be thought of as a rivalry if you consider their location and their historic roots at Millwall.
The game takes place on Wednesday 28 October at Bromley Stadium.
London City had a really huge summer transfer window bringing in some of the best players in the women's game, including Alexia Putellas. Their moves see them sat fourth in the table at the end of September.
This match will be Palace's most difficult game in the Players Cup, as other tough competitors from the WSL are excluded from the competition.
Palace last faced London City in the League Cup last season with London City winning 2-1. They also won on the same scoreline in the League cup the year before. The two also faced each other in the 2023/24 season of the WSL2 when Palace won promotion, with Palace winning both games with a 2-0 and a 6-1 victory.
