Tom masters gives his post-match reaction to Crystal Palace's 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

Adam Wharton said he was ‘disappointed’ with Crystal Palace’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool but believes there are positives to be found in how the Eagles played.

Palace could not win their fourth straight win over Liverpool this season, having already beaten them in the League Cup, Community Shield and return Premier League clash.

They found themselves 2-0 down at half-time after goals from Alexander Isak and Andrew Robertson and that proved to be an unassailable lead.

Daniel Munoz’s goal after 71 minutes did give Palace hope, and they threw the kitchen sink at Liverpool, but were unable to ultimately find an equaliser, and it was the Reds who scored next through Florian Wirtz six minutes into stoppage time.

It was a result that effectively leaves Palace needing to win at least four of their remaining games to stand a chance of being among the European places this summer, while they are also battling out for Conference League glory having reached the semi-finals.

Wharton admitted that the side were obviously frustrated with the result but that ultimately there were positives to take from the performance.

He told Palace TV: “Obviously, we were disappointed with the result.

“We were coming here to get the win, I felt the performance was good, though.

“We can look at it and take the positives. We created some good chances, and on another day, we score a few more goals.

“They were clinical and effective with the chances they got. We can look back on the positives, but ultimately, we’re disappointed with the result.”

Palace had more chances, more shots and more shots on target than Liverpool but were shown a lesson in how to be clinical.

Wharton explained that that is one of the lessons Palace must learn going forward, with Conference League glory just three games away.

Wharton also praised the away fans for their efforts at Anfield with plenty of noise coming from the away end despite the defeat.

"I think in the first half we had a couple of good chances. We controlled them pretty well.

“But they had two breakaways, and obviously they’re a top team on the break.

“They had two half-chances and took them.”

“The away end was full, and the fans were top as always.

“This is what we need, we saw it in the home game against Fiorentina, the atmosphere was electric, and it definitely made the difference.”
