Honest Ahanor - Italy U21s 6-2 Poland U21s

Palace’s on-loan central defender had initially been selected for the Italian first team squad, but with over 30 players selected, Roberto Mancini was having to cut as many as 11 players when selecting matchday squads.

With this in mind, Ahanor dropped down to the under-21 side to aid them in their qualification for the European Championships. In doing so, he started the young Italian’s final game of the international break, a 6-2 victory over Poland.

He played the entire game at right back, showing off his versatility after primarily appearing on the left hand side of the back three for both Palace and Atalanta last season. It was a busy performance for the Palace man, unsurprisingly in a game with eight goals between the sides.

Italy finished top of their group, level on points with Poland but ahead on goal difference alone, showing the importance of their high scoring final game.

A strong performance to bring back to South London ahead of a string of performances that Ahanor will undoubtedly be heavily involved in.

Yéremy Pino - Croatia 1-2 Spain

Pino has struggled for minutes across this international break due to the presence in the squad of not only Lamine Yamal but also Alex Baena, who has been hugely impressive for Luis De La Fuente’s side.

He once again started on the bench in Spain’s second meeting against Croatia of the international break, after winning 4-1 in the return fixture.

Croatia took an early lead through Ivan Perišić, and held on until the 60th minute, when super sub Mikel Merino scored the first of two goals on the night to turn the scoreline around and see Spain win. Just before the second, Perišić was shown a second yellow and the ten men of Croatia simply couldn’t hold on.

Pino did feature, replacing Barcelona midfielder Pedri in the 87th minute of the game, playing just seven minutes to close his time away with Spain. Pino will supposedly be looking forward to a return to Palace where he will continue to start games consistently.

Jaydee Canvot - France U21s 7-1 Switzerland U21s

One of the more enjoyable aspects of academy and youth football is the pure number of goals that are scored in the games. Like Ahanor’s win with Italy, a whopping eight goals were scored, but this time it was simply pure dominance from France.

Jaydee Canvot started the game and played the entire ninety minutes as he continued to cement himself as a key figure in Gérald Baticle’s side. France found themselves two goals to the good inside just 14 minutes, and 3-0 up at halftime.

A further five goals were scored in the second half, Tottenham Hotspur's Mathys Tel scoring a hat-trick and France running out 7-1 winners in their final European Championship qualification game, finishing top of their group by an eight point margin, with a positive goal difference of 26.

An incredibly exciting young squad, and Palace have a key part of that side at the club.

Chris Richards & Zavier Gozo - USA 1-0 Canada

In the United States final game of the international break, they faced a Canada side who were eliminated at the same stage of the World Cup, and led by Jesse Marsch who released a midweek rant about the handling of Folarin Balogun’s red card and the entitlement of Americans, which, as an American himself, was an interesting listen.

Chris Richards started and captained the side, and was one of only two outfield players not to be substituted in the game, leading his side to a narrow victory. Canada had the lion's share of efforts and were potentially unfortunate not to come away with at least a draw, but Richards and his defence stood strong and held out for the win.

His Palace teammate, Zavier Gozo, was an unused substitute once again for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but will have earned valuable experience playing with the senior team.
