Honest Ahanor leaves Italy squad
Palace defender Honest Ahanor had earned himself a call up to the Italian senior team, along with a large number of exciting Italian youngsters. However, because of this, Roberto Mancini was tasked with dropping nine players for each match day squad to meet the required 23-man limit.
Because of this, Ahanor has not featured during the break so far, and has now dropped down to the Italian under-21 side in hopes of featuring in their final U21 Euro qualification game against Poland on Monday.
Yerémy Pino - Spain 3-1 Czechia
Another fast start for Spain saw Lamine Yamal score within six minutes, before Rodri doubled the lead ten minutes before halftime.
Palace’s Yerémy Pino hadn’t featured during the international break before this point, but was brought on at halftime to replace Alex Baena, as Liverpool’s Victor Munoz replaced Lamine Yamal on the other wing too.
Despite conceding in the 69th minute, Spain went on to increase their lead to 3-1. Pino’s performance wasn’t anything special, but it was good to see him back on the pitch for his country again.
Jaydee Canvot - France U21s 3-2 Luxembourg U21s
France’s under-21 side made it three wins from three in this international break on Saturday evening with a hard fought win against Luxembourg.
Jaydee Canvot wasn’t selected to start, but came on in the 53rd minute after Borussia Dortmund’s Joane Gadou was sent off for violent conduct.
France had just conceded to make it 2-1 at the time, and although Luxembourg found an equaliser, France retook the lead through Mathys Tel in the 76th minute and saw the victory out.
Canvot’s side will play one more game in their under-21 European Championship qualification.
Daichi Kamada - Japan (5) 0-0 (4) Ecuador
Japan ended their international break with a 0-0 draw with Ecuador, but were winners in the resulting penalty shootout. Kamada didn’t start for Japan, who rotated their side, but he came off the bench for the final twenty minutes and scored his penalty to make it 2-2 in the shootout.
Kamada continues to be an important part of Japan’s squad, who are in a new phase of development, but the Palace man will likely continue to feature throughout the transition as one of their key leadership figures.
