Jørgen Strand Larsen - Portugal 2-1 Norway

As has been the theme across this series of International Eagles, Jørgen Strand Larsen was once again a bench option for Norway in their final Nations League game against Portugal, a game which was headlined by Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence after withdrawing from the national side, supposedly due to a lack of game time.

Erling Haaland started the game as he always does, and it was Norway who took the lead through an incredible goal from central defender Kristoffer Ajer. Portugal levelled the scoreline before halftime and went on to win the game 2-1 courtesy of a Gonçalo Ramos goal, the man who has replaced Ronaldo in the starting lineup.

Strand Larsen did come onto the pitch in the 67th minute, as Haaland couldn’t continue due to an injury. The Palace man was unable to impact the game though, as Portugal saw out the win, despite losing Francisco Conceição to a red card.

Anan Khalaili - Ireland 1-1 Israel

In a fixture that had been built up around off-pitch conversation and discussions, the game went ahead and ended level as a Dor Peretz strike cancelled out a Troy Parrott penalty, and Palace’s Anan Khalaili was finally rested.

Khalaili had been struggling with fitness over the rest of the international break, and the Israeli manager had, for some reason, been persistent with starting him in every game despite this. Finally, he was rested, but only after he limped off in the previous game with a suspected thigh/hamstring issue.

Palace fans will be hopeful that he can recover quickly in time for the return of domestic and European football, with an extremely demanding run of games coming quickly after the break for Pierre Sage’s side.

Quinten Timber - Netherlands 2-1 Serbia

Quinten Timber has had a mixed bag when it comes to this international break, playing well in the first game and then facing heavy criticism from Dutch media for his performances in the following two games.

In their final Nations League game, Timber started on the bench and was brought on as an 82nd minute substitute for Tijani Reijnders. The Dutch opened the scoring through Tenu Koopmeiners, before Serbia levelled the score through Mihajlo Cvetković. Joshua Zirkzee then put the hosts 2-1 up shortly before Timber was introduced.

The Palace midfielder made a handful of defensive contributions but was not on the pitch long enough to make a real impact on the game, although his side did see out the win to keep them top of their group.

Rio Cardines - Trinidad & Tobago 1-1 Curacao

The Palace loanee has had an excellent start to his season, and carried that form into the international break. However, he was recalled by Bristol City ahead of their final game against Curacao due to an injury that he had been playing through in previous games, struggling with both his groin and foot.

Bristol City fans, who enjoyed a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park in a mid-season friendly, will be hoping that the recall is simply precautionary.
