Estonia U21s 0-2 France U21s

France’s under-21 side continued their qualification process for the Under-21 European Championships with an away match against Estonia on Tuesday. Jaydee Canvot started the 1-1 draw against Iceland but was dropped to the bench in place of RC Lens’ Ismaelo Ganiou, a player Palace targeted throughout the summer.

Whilst Canvot didn’t start, he was introduced off the bench at halftime, replacing Ganiou, and played a key role in France’s second goal, assisting new Leeds United man Jean-Mattéo Bahoya.

Estonia had been down to ten men since the first half when France were already ahead, and Gérald Baticle’s side held out for the win, which kept them top of their qualification group.

Quinten Timber - Greece 2-2 Netherlands

Greece have one of the most exciting young squads in the world at the minute, and were of great value for their 2-0 lead at halftime in this game. Palace’s midfielder Timber started the game, but was axed at halftime due to a lacklustre performance.

Dutch pundits heavily criticised him, claiming that he struggled heavily to dictate the tempo of the match and was bypassed far too easily.

Xavi made the decision to replace him with Ryan Gravenberch at halftime in a reshuffle which ultimately led to the Netherlands getting back into the game and grinding out a 2-2 draw, with a last minute equaliser via Tijani Reijnders.

There could be an element of fatigue contributing to Timber’s performance, as he has played consistently since signing for Palace and featured heavily in the international break so far.

Jørgen Strand Larsen - Wales 2-1 Norway

One of the more surprising results of the break so far saw Craig Bellamy’s Wales side defeat Norway at home on Thursday evening. Strand Larsen once again held a position on the bench for Erling Haaland to start, and Ståle Solbakken’s side went ahead in just 11 minutes, Oscar Bobb scoring.

Wales fought back and found an equaliser through Dan James just before halftime, and just after the break, Norway were dealt another huge blow as central defender Torbjørn Heggem was sent off for a professional last man foul.

Wales scored from the resulting free kick, and held on to win the game. Strand Larsen did come on in the 75th minute, but had very little impact on the game, touching the ball just six times.
