Crystal Palace return to Premier League action in the final game before the first international break of the season.
Crystal Palace travel North to Leeds to face Daniel Farke’s high-flying side in the final game before the September international break. Palace have had a mixed bag of results in the opening weeks of the campaign, and will be eager to go into the three week break with a positive result.
That could prove to be a difficult task, as Leeds have continued their excellent form from the end of last season into the new campaign, unbeaten in all four of their opening Premier League games.
Palace come into the game off the back of mixed form, beating Polish side Lech Poznań 4-0 in midweek but losing to Ipswich Town in the Premier League last weekend after Axel Disasi was sent off.
For Leeds, an incredible run of form dating as far back as December 2025 sees them sitting fifth in the league table in the 29 games since that time. Daniel Farke had come close to losing his job, and since taken the side on a truly incredible run of form, which included the 4-1 drubbing of Newcastle United last Monday night.
Fixture History
The overall balance of the fixture lies drastically in the favour of Sunday’s hosts. In the 56 total meetings between the two sides, Palace have won just 16, with 14 ending level and United winning the remaining 26.
In terms of Premier League meetings alone, Palace have won five whilst Leeds have won six, with those numbers changing drastically when games played only at Elland Road are looked at. Amongst those seven games, Leeds have won four, with Palace coming out on top just twice.
One of those wins came back in April 2023, when under Roy Hodgson, Palace came from one goal down to win 5-1 at Elland Road, a game where Michael Olise registered three assists, Jordan Ayew scored a brace and Ebere Eze danced beyond the Leeds defence.
Last time Palace visited Farke’s side, it was a day to forget. A 4-1 win in a game which Leeds dominated from start to finish, Justin Devenny scoring a consolation goal from the penalty spot but it was one miserable evening.
The good news for Palace is that this game is not being played under the lights, because since Daniel Farke was appointed, in games kicking off at 19:45 or later, Leeds are unbeaten, winning 19 and drawing four.
Palace could take some hope from that, but based on the eye test alone this season, the intensity that Leeds are playing with under Farke could be somewhat overwhelming for a Palace side which has struggled in defensive transitions.
Team news and predicted lineup
After featuring off the bench during the win against Lech, Ismaïla Sarr could be in line to feature for Palace for the first time in the Premier League this season. During his pre-match press conference which was held after the win over Lech in midweek, Pierre Sage spoke about Sarr’s return to the side and whether or not he could feature.
“To start, maybe, to play ninety minutes, I don’t think”, he said when asked if we would see the Senegal international feature on Sunday.
Cheick Doucouré is available for selection, as is Eddie Nketiah after scoring the fourth goal on Thursday night. Chadi Riad and Jean-Philippe Mateta remain unavailable.
The lack of changes during midweek, with Sage selecting an identical side to the one which lost to Ipswich, suggests that he may be settling on a first eleven, and that could mean we see a very similar lineup, with the only guaranteed change to be a replacement for Disasi who will miss the game following his red card last weekend.
Therefore, the RoundTable expected lineup for this game is as follows.
W.Benítez, A.Khalaili, J.Canvot, H.Ahanor, C.Richards, T.Mitchell, Q.Timber, A. Wharton, D. Kamada, Y. Pino, J. Strand Larsen.
All coverage of the game will be live on Monday as our writers are all travelling to see the game at Elland Road!
